The President of The United States

By MamaLiberty

Lots of speculation and argument around the ‘net already about the election that won’t happen until 2016, especially in regards to the “president,” of course. With no eligible incumbent and a VP who is less qualified than a dish of scrambled eggs, the field is wide open. Plenty of discussion of Ms Clinton and her vast array of conflicting liabilities and supposed assets, with some national pundits even talking openly about her long history of lies and deception, yet she is considered by many as viable candidate. Ron Paul is “too radical” for a lot of folks, and most of the rest of the potential candidates are pretty scary to one faction or another. Mr. Cruz has no look in, since he’s Canadian, but not black… and so it goes.

The one thing I’m not seeing much of is rational analysis of the actual job description in the Constitution, for whatever that’s worth, and how the various candidates might carry out those required duties and no more. Just what do people truly think a president should be doing and why?

The Constitution reads thus:

Article 2 – The Executive Branch
Section 2 – Civilian Power Over Military, Cabinet, Pardon Power, Appointments

The President shall be Commander in Chief of the Army and Navy of the United States, and of the Militia of the several States, when called into the actual Service of the United States; he may require the Opinion, in writing, of the principal Officer in each of the executive Departments, upon any subject relating to the Duties of their respective Offices, and he shall have Power to Grant Reprieves and Pardons for Offenses against the United States, except in Cases of Impeachment.

He shall have Power, by and with the Advice and Consent of the Senate, to make Treaties, provided two thirds of the Senators present concur; and he shall nominate, and by and with the Advice and Consent of the Senate, shall appoint Ambassadors, other public Ministers and Consuls, Judges of the supreme Court, and all other Officers of the United States, whose Appointments are not herein otherwise provided for, and which shall be established by Law: but the Congress may by Law vest the Appointment of such inferior Officers, as they think proper, in the President alone, in the Courts of Law, or in the Heads of Departments.

Pretty vague, yet far reaching “powers” there, but I don’t see a single word that even comes close to granting a president the power to provide things like jobs, “gun control,” health care, “safe” foods or any of the thousand and one things the current occupier of the office seems to think are his prerogative to dictate, by force, on everyone in the country – and personally! He’s decided he doesn’t even need congress to create a utopia for all of us…  Those things which are, more or less, spelled out as presidential duties above are quite clearly tied to the actions of the congress, but these ties have been weakened and in many cases abandoned altogether, especially in the last decade or so.

Where did all that stuff come from? How did the POTUS gain the power, let alone any responsibility, to provide (or deny) contraceptives, save the earth from plant food (CO2), or any of the rest of it?

So, what do you expect a “president” to do, and why do you think one is needed at all? Or will Hillary become the “less of two evils?”

(Please note that I use the “constitution” only for comparison. I don’t need or want any of it myself. I govern my own life.)

  1. How? Because most people are a) too busy running their own lives to keep track of the growth of Leviathan and b) many of those same people LIKE the idea of Leviathan working for them when it comes to messing with other people’s lives.

Forgetting the truism that “the state that can give you everything you want can take away everything you have.” (no, I don’t remember the source of the quote and I’m paraphrasing anyway… 😉

I don’t think anyone gets a pass just because they are busy, Hobbit. Very few live such insulated lives that they don’t see at least some of the insanity going on in their world, even if they don’t pay much attention to the big picture. Everyone is dealing with the shrinking value of whatever money they have, even if they truly think the manufacturers and farmers are to blame. Everyone can see the growing police state, no matter how firmly they close their eyes to it – until it is their house on fire.

No, the disconnect is the continued belief that government, however bad, actually has some legitimate authority to control their lives and property. Many people do see the damage, but continue to believe that they can somehow control it – even while they continue to believe in the myth of government authority. That’s what has to change, and I’m afraid it will take a catastrophe of Biblical proportions.

Indeed… First, why would anyone want any other person to own and control their life? Of course, most people won’t see and accept this as the actual result of electoral politics and “government,” of course.

Second, even if you did, who would qualify and why?

Third, how in the world could anyone have the authority to choose any of that for someone else?

So, “choosing” anyone as demonstrably evil as Clinton defies all logic… and I can’t think of any one of the potential candidates who is less evil either.
