Today is the 2nd of July. 242 years ago, in Philadelphia, the Continental Congress voted to approve the Declaration of Independence.
Even the FedGov recognizes that today is the REAL Independence Day, as can be seen in this article from 2005. Not that the truth matters to the FedGov.
In that vote, Congress voted to SECEDE from the British empire. To sever their political (and other) ties with the Kingdom of Great Britain. (It would not become the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland until 1800.) It would take another seven years of war to secure that independence, to gain that freedom. (And then just a few short years to give up most of it by ratifying the Constitution of 1787 (actually taking effect in 1789).
So Happy Independence Day! Let us look forward to a new birth of liberty in the near future.
The Price of Liberty 
to actually say that those who SECEDED from britain would then turn around and prevent secession from the formed union is
-to be blind and unable to read the words of the founders, or
-be deaf and not able to hear their words when spoken/read, or, and most likely,
-to have an agenda that is precluded by the founding document.
the ‘civil war’, a lie from the beginning since the south did not want to take over the central govt, but, rather, exit such, just as all had done from the british empire, DID NOT SETTLE THE QUESTION OF SECESSION. rather, it settled the question as to whether the central govt would be a small entity actually helping, or a bloated leviathan destroying the marrow of this nation.
we all know how this turned out as we look to the district of cesspools with angst and fear, all we believe in being swept aside, all done by a congress that delegates everything, a bureaucracy that decrees everything and an enforcement arm that makes all tyrants jealous…
THIS is INDEPENDENCE??!!

You and Mama Liberty both pointed out this truth. The Founding Fathers did not go far enough – one reason it was the War for Independence and not truly an American Revolution. Everything that King George and Parliament pushed on the American colonists has been dumped on Americans by the FedGov (or the state governments with Federal agreement and even mandates), at least in kind. Yes, even a state religion: humanism and evolution and effectively making the state into a god.

The real shame is that so many people have zero understanding of individual liberty, self ownership and self responsibility. Instead, the Declaration of Independence goes on and on about “the people” choosing some DIFFERENT rulers, if they want – and that’s the only context I can see being
promoted. Independence for involuntary government as a “nation,” not individual sovereignty. Sigh.
Nathan’s thoughts: Involuntary, yes, but far less so that what they rejected, and a good step towards individual sovereignty. The Founding Fathers did not go far enough, but given their circumstances and upbringing and background, I am amazed that they went even this far. Americans could (and should have) built on their advances, just as they built on the events and advances made in England (and elsewhere) in their past. But Americans did not. Rather, today, most have turned their back even on the limited advances in personal liberty (sovereignty) made in the War of American Independence, and even the very limited promise of the Declaration has been lost.

Went and visited your website “Freedom through Empowerment,” ( https://freedomthroughempowerment.wordpress.com/ ) and that is quite a challenge you’ve given yourself.
Ultimately, and by God’s grace, the only human empowerment we receive is from ourselves – as self-governors responsible and accountable for our actions. The Founding Fathers tried, but could not totally reject human government and how it forces people to do things, even while claiming it is doing so in the cause of liberty. I think you will appreciate Mama’s comments.
