Home front – Liberty
A Thoroughly American Tactic against Tyranny

(Freedom Outpost)

Nathan:  This article is welcome, because most pro-liberty/pro-freedom sites that are more “conservative” than “libertarian” seem to consciously ignore fully-informed jury “rights” (powers) in the tools available.  This is possibly because so many perceive it (wrongly) as being associated just with draft-dodging and against the war on drugs, and because too many were brought up to almost worship the black robed judges.  The more widely information about the powers of juries is spread, the better.  But we must remember that jury nullification is at best a weapon of self-defense with very limited strength and applicability.  Someone wrongly killed by cops, or someone tried and “convicted” by an administrative-law judge or a summary court (that is, without a jury) benefits in no way at all.  And even when juries nullify a law, it is all too easy to get overturned on appeal, or to have other charges filed.  So Freedom Outpost correctly identifies it as a “tactic” and not a “strategy.”

FBI: US 20 Most Dangerous Cities

(Bossip)

Nathan:  The list is – interesting (assuming you believe the FBI, or even if we don’t).  The rates range from 1,166 crimes per 100,000 people to a staggering 2,337 crimes per 100,000.  Surprising, too, that the BIG cities (LA, Chicago, New York, Houston) are NOT on the list.  In fact, there are NO Western cities and NO Texan cities.  And only TWO Pacific Coast cities.  Southern cities seem to be fairly proportional to the population of the South (Nashville, Miami, Atlanta, Birmingham, Memphis) Old South, at least), but what about Connecticut?  What a cesspool!  The point is, most violent crime, like most unlawful killings, take place in big urban areas: and even there, according to reports, most violent crime and killings take place in “select” neighborhoods:  21st Century ghettos, barrios, and slums.  Why?  In part because of racial issues and economic issues, but ALSO in large part because those areas are where cops (government) have concentrated on disarmament of the peaceful and innocent.  True, criminals tend to kill and be killed by criminals, and those deaths (and injuries) often are not widely reported.  But criminals prey on the weak and innocent – and stupid.

Mama’s Note: That’s a terrible website, each city noted has to be loaded separately. If you want to see the whole list, this is an excellent article at “Shot 97,” a radio site, of all things.

Technology and Finance
Immortality breakthrough

(AgoraFinancial.com)

Nathan: I assume that most of my readers are familiar with Agora Financial, a libertarian-owned/operated investment publisher which owns Laissez Faire Books and publishes a bewildering array of publications all promised to help you make yourself rich.  This is their latest: they have been beating the drum on a gene therapy which throws a “switch” in your DNA to keep cells from aging and dying, and thereby allows direct and personal immortality.  Let me know if this makes sense and if the claims may be valid or not.

Mama’s Note: I think that some people can make progress in that direction, absolutely. It would take serious self ownership, etc. I can’t see it as a “pill” or something that can cause just anyone and everyone to live forever… And the very thought makes my hair stand on end. I think there is a very natural and rational reason why people age and deteriorate as they do, and there is no simple answer to stopping that, though I have no doubt that some will try.

But just imagine Nancy Pelosi or Janet Reno living forever…

Stupid government tricks
How Government Makes Us Fatter

(Jenna Robinson, “The Freeman, December 28, 2012.)

Nathan: I would love to publish the entire article, which proves Harry Browne’s statement: “The government is good at one thing. It knows how to break your legs, and then hand you a crutch and say, ‘See if it weren’t for the government, you wouldn’t be able to walk.’”  It talks about how government interference and intrusion into the marketplace and its “expert knowledge” have created the very crisis that Michelle (the “messiah’s” consort) is now using to increase government power still more.

Oil Industry Says It’s Spent Billions to Reduce Greenhouse Gases

(CNSNews.com)

Nathan: Much of which has been in an attempt to meet stupid and useless government regulations, and at least some of the rest attempting to sell themselves to consumers as something that they are not.  Ironic, isn’t it, that much of the price we pay for fuel goes immediately to government and to stupid things which fuel government and environist power and demands?

The “messiah’s” new coronation
Obama Chooses Cuban-American Gay Man As Inaugural Poet

(CNSNews.com)

Nathan: Wow, a twofer!  Of course, since the Cuban-American community is primarily a conservative one, it isn’t going to get many Demo votes as a result.

Culture wars: Homosexual “marriage”
National Cathedral to perform same-sex weddings

(CNSNews.com)

Nathan: So?  This “National Cathedral” may have been some people’s church meeting house or temple or whatever, but I never saw it as being anything but another monument to the state, challenging belief in and obedience to God.  This homosexual “marriage” is just one more of many, many abominations conducted in this building which are a violation of basic doctrines of Biblical Christianity.  The sooner people realize that “God does not dwell in structures made by human hands” but in the hearts of those who are voluntarily and freely obedient to Him, the better.

Mama’s Note: And it would be really nice if everyone just gave up the idea that they can dictate someone else’s sexual preference or activity, marriage arrangements or anything else that doesn’t involve aggression against another person.

What we all knew – New Religions: Environism
Humanity Unbound: How Fossil Fuels Saved Humanity from Nature and Nature from Humanity

Indur M. Goklany,  ” Cato Institute, December 20, 2012.

Nathan: Just reading the very brief summary of this article will make you realize the importance of this:  explaining detail by detail, case by case WHY “fossil fuels” are literally a gift from God and PROTECT the environment and preserve and improve human life in so many ways.  It therefore makes it clear that the “environist” position is essentially ANTI-humanity and ANTI-environmental protectionist.

Mama’s Note: Wonderful… bookmarked and I’ll be spreading the link around.

Hoploclasts
Biden: Obama Will Act on Guns, Can Use Executive Orders

(CNSNews.com)

Nathan: As expected, it is obvious that the current occupants of 1600 PA and their immediate minions do NOT see themselves bound in ANY way by the Constitution.  And if they will take “executive action” against the liberties protected by the Second Amendment, there is NO part of the Constitution that binds them – even if it were still in effect.  If “executive action” can be used to steal guns (or ammunition) then it can be used to extend terms of office indefinitely, get rid of juries, get rid of habeas corpus, allow double jeopardy, prevent free speech, and everything else.  The media tries to continue to claim that no one is talking about “overturning the Second Amendment” or “confiscating guns.” (Yet every day we hear another politician who has announced they seek to do just those things.)
