In Nebraska in 2023, apparently, the punishment for murder and other crimes is 90 days in jail and 2 years probation. For which the judge has been condemned by woke regressives because the judge was too harsh.
As we understand the report originally in the Omaha World Herald, the teenager killed her unborn child by taking abortion pills obtained by the teen’s mother. At the time of the killing, the child was at 30 weeks gestation – just 9 weeks short of usual time of birth. After the dead child was expelled from her body, the two women then tried three times to dispose of the corpse. They did so ultimately by burning the tiny body and burying “the thing” (their words in text messaging) in a shallow hole in the backyard.
At the time, Nebraska law prohibited abortion after 20 weeks (now it is banned after 12 weeks). But the judge allowed a plea bargain in which the killer pled guilty to a felony of “removing, concealing or abandoning a dead human body” – for which (a) all other charges were dropped and (b) she gets 90 days in a jail cell. No word whether she will be allowed work release privileges.
And we wonder why human life is so devalued in these States in 2023?
We know that many libertarians will condemn us here at TPOL for taking this position, for many libertarians believe that a person isn’t human until birth (if then, in some cases). And that “thing” in a woman’s womb is nothing but an intruder and trespasser. And therefore to be given the death penalty for the child’s (“fetus'”) horrific crime. Hypocritically, too many libertarians who believe that also oppose the death penalty for mass murderers, rapists, and those who mutilate children in the name of their religion of wokeness.
But despite loud claims to the contrary, both medical science and biblical religion agree that a human is a human is a human, from conception to actual physical death. We here now and in the past at TPOL believe that the unalienable rights of life, liberty, and -yes- property or the pursuit of happiness, as you would, belong to the unborn humans just as much as they belong to those whose lives are not viable without medications, health care, and assistance in living at the end of their life or as a result of injuries, wounds, or illness.
Much as we sometimes wish otherwise, when dealing with bureaucrats, cops, lawyers, and judges. We do not get to pick and choose who is human and who is not.
There are times when we have to make decisions as to who can live and who must die, but that was clearly not the case in Nebraska. The “mother” (sick as it is to apply that term to the murderer) was in good health and capable of safely bearing the child to term. The child was healthy and viable until the “mother” deliberately and with premedication chose to take pills and kill her baby. And the baby’s “mother’s” mother chose to aid and abet the killing.
“But women need to have choices!” we hear screamed. Well, this killer did: she was not raped, as much as we can tell. She was not forced to have sex with a man. She was, not, as far as we know, prohibited from having used (or made her dead child’s father use) a contraceptive.
Even more disgusting and degrading than killing your own offspring – and abusing and desecrating the body – are those people who stood up for her “right” to murder an innocent child. And claim that it is wrong to put fear into people who might do the same evil thing.
Human sacrifice – especially of innocents including children – is an evil, monstrous action all too often recorded in humankind’s history. And generally goes hand in hand with tyranny, conquest, genocide, and wanton killing and enslavement. From ancient Mesopotamia and Anatolia to Mexico and the Four Corners, and even to modern Cambodia and China and other places. Like slavery and conquest, it must be constantly – perhaps eternally – fought and suppressed. Even though we know it will reappear time after time.
If we truly love life and liberty, should we not fight those who take away life for religious or convenience’s sake? Whether it is governments or private individuals who do so?
I guess I shouldn’t be surprised that you turn out to be an anti-abortion fanatic. Tell me, exactly when does a fetus become a “child” or a “human being” in your mind? From the moment the sperm enters the egg? Is this little one-celled creature of equal value to someone who walks the earth? I consider this notion to be complete lunacy.
I can’t stop you from having idiotic ideas. I CAN tell you that your fanaticism isn’t going to fly in society: too many people are possessed of common sense.

Dear Mr. Wainright:
We here at The Price of Liberty respect any person’s opinion, no matter how much we disagree with it, and how nasty the person is in attacking us in order to express their opinion.
No, you should not be surprised that we are opposed to abortion, just as we are opposed to euthanasia, murder, and other aggression. The publishers and editors of The Price of Liberty (if not necessarily everyone who writes for us) have always believed that abortion is by its very nature a fundamental violation of the principle of no aggression that is the heart of libertarianism. This included our founder, Lady Susan (Mama Liberty). Some of us base this on science, including biology. Some on religious values, including christian liberty. But we defend your right to express your opinion, no matter how wrong we believe it is.
We do not deny that we are “fanatics” on many things, including the very idea of human liberty, of freedom, of opposition to government, and the concept in the Declaration of Independence regarding life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Indeed, as other people have over the years, we consider it an honor to be labeled “fanatics” in defense of life and liberty – and even the pursuit of happiness that is not at the expense of other people. Thank you, sir.
To answer your question, science has discovered that life begins at conception, whether of animals or humans. We have stated this repeatedly. We also note that many religions do not teach and believe this – and do not value all human lives equally. Those religions, we believe, are wrong. Just as those political points of view which do not value all human lives are wrong. And we do and will continue to speak out against those who seek to steal away life and liberty – while upholding the God-given right to defend ourselves and others against aggression. To us, these are fundamental to understanding the price of liberty and the fact that true liberty demands personal responsibility.
The Price of Liberty has never valued or expressed our opinion based on whether or not something is going to “fly in society” and see no reason to change. Ditto for what may fly in the Libertarian Party or “libertarian community” or any other group.
We are willing to express and defend our position on any subject related to liberty and freedom. Are you, in turn, willing to defend in a rational manner your apparent beliefs? You accuse us of “having idiotic ideas,” so we welcome your explanation of just why our ideas are idiotic.
