Many of the States are in the deep freeze again this week, after nasty cold and a fair amount of snow (here and there) engulf the North American continent. A few days of slightly warmer weather have been a blessing: some snow has even melted! But now, it is once again time for five layers of clothing and a second pair of socks under those boots!

It probably is not directly the fault of the FedGov or any State governments. (I know – we here at TPOL are so disappointed and no doubt many readers are as well.) Perhaps indirectly?

But of course, to many social justice warriors, those who are woke, so-called “progressives” (who are really regressives), this is one more proof of the validity of their faith.

Faith in what? In “Science” and in the doctrine of manmade global warming. (We understand that the heresy-hunters have deemed that term to indicate apostasy and that the now-canonical term is “manmade climate change.”) Bitter cold temperatures over a wide area of North America are “proof” that emissions by humans of greenhouse gases have changed our climate. Not just in North America, of course, but the entire planet.

Especially since (sadly) too many of these people with faith in Science also have a disturbing amount of faith in politicians. And even the media.

So they listen and are panicked at what is coming out of Davos (and DC and London and Paris and Canberra, etc.) That we therefore are just a few years away from a global catastrophe – possibly the complete collapse of the world’s climate and even society and civilization. Unless we “unite” and give the scientists and politicians and media even more power.

As the moans and screams bounce back and forth in Switzerland at the WEF conclave, we are told that more than 100 million people have already been forced to migrate due to “climate change.” Not only that, we must find homes for them in places like Canada that have plenty of water. And that in the next 26 years (by 2050) over 14 million people will die because of the “health effects” of the climate crisis. (Presumably, that is 14 million “more” people than would normally die.)

Meanwhile, we rejoice here in the Black Hills that daytime temps got up almost to freezing today. But when we go back and look at records, we find this really isn’t that unusual. When you look at temperature records in the rural and frontier areas of the Great Plains and the Rocky Mountains, clean up to Alberta and Saskatchewan and down to Sonora, you find such “extreme weather” is fairly common. Every few years, global wind patterns put us into a deep freeze. Indeed, just in the past half-century, entire States have enjoyed not just subzero temps, but very low ones: weeks and weeks (back in 1969) of daytime high temperatures at -10 degrees F, in one case.

So why all the hype now? Because sizzle sells! The powermongers, both public and private, desperately need to convince more and more people that global unity is essential. And desirable. If claiming to end wars is not enough, if global pandemics are not a good reason? If poverty and starvation are insufficient reasons? Then they need to find other excuses. Even if it means pulling up old and truly discredited claims and whipping them into new forms. So, health and climate and immigration is the latest bullet to be fired.

Oddly enough, many people reject this anyway. Some remember the past unfounded claims. Some are even politicians, like the congresscrittur from Montana who pointed out that even in -30F weather (we know that much of Montana has recorded temperatures of less than -60F), wind turbines don’t turn: don’t produce electricity. So much for replacing coal, oil, and gas-fired power plants with wind and solar to “reduce” climate change.

Others look at the brazenness and over-the-top rhetoric. And their spam alarms go off. The question is, can enough people reject the nonsense to cause this latest bullet to miss? To keep this latest attempt to lock humanity into even more chains of tyranny from succeeding?
