Thursday, 8 February 2024, was a momentous day in American politics.

In front of the Nine Nazgul (SCOTUS), lawyers argued over Colorado and Maine trying to ban THe Donald from their ballots in November: denying the functioning of the “democracy” they supposedly prize and worship. Recently, a court has rejected a Trump lawsuit saying there is “no compelling reason” to proceed.

At the same time, a special prosecutor released the findings regarding Uncle Joe’s mishandling of classified documents after leaving Blair House (the VPOTUS’ official residence). The conclusion? No charges to be filed. At least part of the reason? Boiled down, the man is too out of it (senile?) to understand what he was (and is) doing.

Both (or all!) sides of the political dogfight that is 2024 are ticked off about these events, piled on top of past ones, especially since the campaign season officially began. And it seems that the three-ring circle is going to have to move to a bigger tent: five or six rings, at least.

But the Democrats and especially the Bidenistas seem to be the most incensed. As well they should, given how they have tied their wagon to Uncle Joe’s star. For it seems to be a falling star.

Not that The Donald is free and clear, as he continues to face legal battles and a stronger-than-ever NeverTrumper movement. Everyone claims that they know what SCOTUS “must” decide but this group of Nazgul are hard to predict. They could do quite an end run around both (or all) parties.

And it is not just the fate of the White House that we have to pay attention to. Congress seems to be intent on crashing and burning in multiple ways: party discipline is collapsing, the more and more people there are worried about their future. And no doubt at least some of them remember that there have been quite recent assassination attempts on congresscritturs as well as physical attacks. And that there are people back home plotting to oust them (and as needed, out them for whatever). They take fishbowl living to a new extreme. Which is no doubt one reason many of the incumbents are just plain bailing out. The recent vote to “rescue” Ukraine and Israel shows the increasing disfunctionality.

(We note that one probably doesn’t need rescuing – South Africa has little ability to project forces and enemies closer to home seem to have little or no real guts to expand the war. And the other one, which at least a few people in media are willing to admit, has little or no hope. Look for the scurrying rats seeking safer shores.)

As we will discuss in another commentary, the 2024 political malaise includes more and more State capitols. (In that commentary we will ask the question, when can we see that a State has actually seceded?) Just the States we pay close attention to seem on the verge of impoding.
