America in hospice care

We apparently have now entered the longest general election campaign in American history. With both Uncle Joe and The Donald securing sufficient delegates to win their respective gang’s nomination, they are now officially able to go after each other tooth and nail in a massive fit of political theatre. Which has already indeed started, at an intense level. Nasty enough to make us more than leery as to how incredibly down and dirty it will get between now and the Noverber elections.

As someone pointed out, the first presidential political rematch since Eisenhower was challenged by Adlai Stevenson.

Lucky us.

And for all of their many faults, Adlai and Ike were generally polite gentlemen: at least in public. Stevenson didn’t even bring up to butcher bill of the European Theatre in WW2.

But now? Forget the minor candidates like RFKJr and Jill Stein, and whomever will carry the torch of the Libertarians, the Natural Rights Party, the Prohibitionists, and the “non-torch” of the No Labels bunch. We know that The Donald and Uncle Joe (or is it better to be called “Godfather Joe”) and their haters will dominate the news, the talk shows, the social media, and more. It is, indeed, the political battle between the senile old guy and the insurrectionist.

And the “lower level” races, whether the Senate or the House of Representatives or State (and even local and tribal) elections? Even more nasty. No wonder incumbents are dropping out like flies in a hot bay window instread of facing what they no doubt consider the horrors of the next seven months.

The disgusting nature of American politics – the sausage making – is fully on display. And getting worse.

To us at TPOL is it not obvious?

It is clear that we are seeing a terminal illness. Further treatment at this point is fruitless: we are probably left with monitoring the life signs and making sure that arrangements have been made.

Oh, there are bit players to be selected for this great (and fruitless) drama we get to watch for the mext few months: I may not be counting right is that thirty or so weeks? Aboutt 240 days – the equivalent of 9 or10 bad TV show seasons!

The Donald hasn’t yet said who will be his running mate. A bit of excitement and anticipation is good for ratings.

RFK Jr. has done so just now – a real Easter egg – the kind that has been hiding under a bush for last two or three years.

Of course the Libertarian Party won’t choose this year’s designated loser until the end of May together with the bottom of the ticket. (And the convention is at DC, just to add insult to injury.) And the No Labels cluster… excuse me, charlie-foxtrot … has no idea. But they are bit parts – not more than walk-ons, and probably not cameo roles.

But anything to distract the peasants from the real situation. Life support is coming down and we must decide.

Meanwhile, we face more and more economic collapse. Not just along with the rest of the world, but even more so: are we starting to smell like that egg? Or China? I know most of the pundits say that the Russians are collapsing to, but we have to ask if this time, they may survive longer relatively intact that our own empire?

The Francis Scott Key Bridge fiasco is the latest, and it is indeed a major, blow on the economy. Much as I hope and pray (or wish) that the US Army Corps of Engineers will do all the right things, I’m not holding my breath. And the economic damage started as soon as the harbor was blocked and the bridge closed. I fear that whatever the Corps can figure out, they will be hamstrung by Uncle Joe and his puppet masters and minions. We may see a decline in true productivity and prosperity this year, just from that.

Add to that the invasion now not just from the south but from the north. And this may get worse as Trudeau attempts to tighten down on his deplorables, and many of them join Californians, Oregonians, Washingtonians, Hondurans, Nicaraguans, and Venezuelans (to name just a few) fleeing their homelands. To come to a land of hope and glory. Where neither is justified.

It may be the only hope of the Western States (and I don’t consider CA, OR, and WA part of that group) will be if we have a delayed election (or none) and enough people wake up to join with a couple of Canadian provinces and chart our own course. Are we being too optimistic?
