The times, the times they are a changing. That was a popular song back in the 1960s and 1970s during the war in Southeast Asia and upheavals in the States.
It has applied on and off since then. Today perhaps more than ever.
As we begin the month of August, we recall the “Guns of August” remind us of the outbreak of the Great War in Europe. Again, then, there were warnings of the upheaval to come, but no one had the slightest idea of the incredible bloodbath that flooded Europe for more than four years of declared war, much less the decades of bloody struggle that would result: the chaos in the German and the Austro-Hungarian Empires, the horrors of the fall of the Russian Empire and the revolutions and civil war, and more millions dead. Much less the rise of fascism in Italy, the National Socialists in Germany, and the Falange in Spain. Or the evils of the New Deal in the States.
Today we still live with the results of the evils triggered that long-ago day in the Balkans.
Right now, Stateside, we have hints of something which could very similarly blow up in our faces. And that of everyone in the world.
Not only do we have more and more people in a panic over “civil war” here in the States. Not only do we see daily death tolls (and far more wounded, maimed, and driven crazy) in Canaan (Israel including the Gaza Strip, Judea and Samaria (the “West Bank”) and of course Lebanon and parts of Syria). And the Ukraine fiasco. And we should not forget Yemen, and the continuing “low-intensity” war in much of Africa. The continuing Cartel War in Mexico. The situation in Kashmir.
We have a heated – and getting hotter – situation here in the States. The seemingly-bizarre behavior of the Secret Service in Pennsylvania, for example. To say nothing of Uncle Joe – becoming as reclusive as Wilson, or Harding, or FDR in their last days.
At the same time, the war on the streets continues. Not just the usual gang violence and weekly butcher’s bill in Chicago and Baltimore and a half-dozen other inner cities.
The latest in that is a strange warning about a Venezuelan gang (Tren de Aragua). Not in Venezuela where Maduro’s claim to have won the election (again) is foisting rebellion and chaos – and more refugees and even starvation. No, right here in the States. A warning says there are more than a thousand members of the gang in the States. Why is the warning strange? The Colorado fusion center (officially the Colorado Information Analysis Center, CIAC) sent a warning that the TdA has ordered its members to shoot and kill cops.
(Isn’t CIAC an innocuous name for an internal security apparat?)
And who did CIAC sent the warning to? Apparently not local cops in Colorado – Denver, Aurora, C Springs, etc. Nope! To the Albuquerque Police Department, way down in New Mexico. Whose Empress welcomes with open arms every possible border jumper without question, and threatens war with Texas if Texas keeps trying to maintain its border security along the Rio Grande.
The APD (infamous for its officers killing the innocent, mentally challenged, etc.) in turn warned the Border Patrol. Which seems to be the organization that in turn told the Federal Department of Homeland Security about the alleged threat. Ah, communication! Thou art a lost skill!
Add that to the mix of Trump and Trumpistas crowing loudly about the illegitimacy of the current regime, the recent coup in DC, and of course, the screams of the Woke and so-called Progressives and far too many Libertarians about The Donald, the evil enemy of democracy and fascist/ And the roiled if not bubbling waters of the remnants of the Occupy Movement, the Black Lives Matter organization – and of course the real neo-Nazis and those who prey on children and women and anyone else weaker than they are. Regardless of what clothing they wear or how they put stuff on their face.
Whom do we believe? How about none of them? How about a pox on all their houses? Stand up, not to be counted, but to let people see that we can take care of ourselves and our families and neighborhoods. Whether the criminal predators are in blue or black uniforms, speak with a Mexican or Venezuelan or Russian or Chinese accent, or a Harvard and DC tone.
Now is the time to proclaim liberty unto all the land and all the inhabitants thereof. Especially to the gang members – in or out of uniform. They too can be free, and let – and help! – others to be free. To live in liberty, peace, and prosperity.
The choice is ours. Cower in fear, bully and threaten those who are our enemies – or just mean and surly. Or be prepared to defend those we love and show love to others?
