More on Harris and Walz – and Trump and Vance

Ah, what a quartet of statists we find on the two old party presidential tickets this year! (Assuming, of course, that we don’t get yet another surprise at Chicago in a couple of weeks.)

With less than three months to Der Tag, let us look at these so-august personages. Are any of them suitable for being Massa now or in the future?

With a deep breath…

Trump, The Donald, as is so often the case, is a loose cannonball in so many ways. He does so very well at alienating allies and supporters, even while we chuckle at the way he bites (and bites back) at his true political adversaries. Are we wrong to characterize him as a typical powerful and wealthy New Yorker (if now a Florida resident) in the same vein as Alexander Hamilton (who possibly together with Peter Sturdyvant and a few others helped create that stereotypical New Yorker arrogance and disdain)? In Trump is exposed the egotism and often amoral nature of successful big businessmen and politicians. But he is a talker. And 2017-2020, bad as they were? Better than 2021-2024 so far.

Vance: We always give Jarheads the benefit of the doubt: we’ve known a few and Vance seems to fit in that mold. But still, he is a Marine turned successful politician. And like Pence before him, he has imbibed a good deal of the negative traits of successful politicians. For now, at least he seems to take his oath to the US Constitution seriously – for what good that does. And though he isn’t a combat vet, he is more honest and open about it. And unlike his erstwhile boss, he treats his family well. But maybe he sounds too good to be true, and too willing to follow the shifting political winds. And Ohio is not well-known for producing truly good politicians in favor of liberty: consider the eight US presidents that hailed from Ohio (more than even Virginia) left a dubious record indeed: including Grant, both Harrisons, and Harding. (Well, while his political record is as bad as Obummer, at least he doesn’t have that Chicago, Honest-Abe stench.)

Harris: How can we trust someone who fails to follow the moral teachings she claims to embrace (a question to be asked about Trump as well, of course) and who has (inconsistently) admitted to socialist and even communist-style political beliefs? And California? Seriously? Even more Babylon-by-the-Bay (San Francisco). Her record smells really bad. Can anyone really explain why Biden (or his handlers) picked her back in 2020? She is a lightweight compared to Hillary – but she isn’t Hillary or Michelle: points in her favor.

Walz: How embarrassing! This is from an MSNBC appearance: “There’s no guarantee to free speech on misinformation or hate speech.” While it is disappointing that the State of Minnesota would elect someone like this guy to be their governor (Elected Dictator is more like it) twice, it is more embarrassing that he was allowed to stay in the Army National Guard for 24 years. (By the way, he apparently is now drawing (or able to draw) a military pension. Which isn’t shabby even at his reduced rank of Master Sergeant (E-8).) This is also a 60-year-old “adult” who equates socialism with neighborliness. I am sure the millions who died and millions more who suffered under the Soviets, the Fascists, the Falangists, the Third Reich, the Peronists, the Kymer Rouge, and Mao (and his successors) will be glad to hear that it was just neighborliness that caused all that.

Bottom line: A quartet of flawed, even worthless, candidates who will once again prove (no matter who wins) that those capable of running for and getting elected to these offices will be found incapable of serving in those offices honorably, justly, and in conformance to the limits and obligations of the US (and State) Constitutions.

(We should point out that the publisher here at TPOL is the son of an ARNG, ANG, and Army Reserve NCO, though not higher than E-6. And as first a junior (company-grade) and later field-grade Engineer Officer, has served with and highly respects many Reserve, Guard, and Active Army, Air Force, and Marine NCOs including Sergeants Major. But has also known some to whom the Peter Principle certainly applies in spades. The deterioration of American and State military forces in the last two decades has been obvious and lamented. But soldiers often do not make good State and Federal leaders. Even if we here at TPOL considered any of these governments legitimate in the eyes of the Creator.)
