2024 presidential election – why bother?

Editor’s Note: We ran an earlier version of this commentary back on 11 April 2023. and with the election now just 2+ months away, thought it worth revisiting!

As elections go, the past 17 months have been one of the most “exciting” and unpredictable in American history. Back 17 months ago, we were hearing the pundits who believed it was already been decided who is going to win on 05 November 2024.

The problem is, they didn’t all agree. Not then, and not now.

We wrote the last commentary with this title just after the indictment and processing (arrest and release on bond) of The Donald, writing: many claim that the actions of a Manhattan District Attorney have so mobilized and outraged Trumpistas and many more Republicans and even a fair number of independents and Democrats that Trump will definitely win. Possibly by a landslide, given Uncle Joe’s age, mental condition, physical condition, and his glorious economic and foreign affairs record – to say nothing of how he has reformed American society by gaining total acceptance of transgenderism, homosexuality, and ending 160 years of race war and 500 years of racism.

Our sarcasm was proven: the Dems jettisoned Uncle Joe – and sure enough the polls skyrocketed in favor of The Donald after his conviction on those charges. (Although sentencing is still a month away: do you not love the speed of justice in this America of ours?)

We had gone on talk about those who believed back then that Uncle Joe would win. We wrote: On the other hand, there are many who are certain that, as long as he keeps breathing, Uncle Joe is a shoo-in for another four years in the basement of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. Provided, perhaps, that he can dump Kamala, who according to many is expected to receive the coveted “Worst VP in History” award in the next year or so. They point out that the Orange Man Bad has ticked off millions of Republicans, including nearly everyone actually in office, starting with Ron De Santos and working on down. And virtually every independent voter; he is blamed for COVID-19, for the Ukraine War, and for the untimely death of Elizabeth II. But that the nation is so badly divided that he cannot possibly steal enough votes from Uncle Joe (at least after the Democrats are done with their usual tactics).

Some of those predicting the inevitable victory of Uncle Joe and his Democratic and Progressive supporters – to say nothing of the Deep State – are people that have a fairly good record as a semi-prophet of economic and political events. Libertarians? Constitutionalists? Taxpayers Party? Seriously? Enough said: they have as much chance of winning ANY election beyond local dog-catcher or playground monitor as yesterday’s Black Hills snow has of lasting until 1 June.

Shock! They were all very, very wrong. Of course, in the last 17 months, before the strange announcement, many of those same (failed) prophets had also speculated that Uncle Joe might retire and withdraw in favor of someone. But few of those seemed to think that dear Cammie the Commie would be his replacement. As we said, the last 17 months are brought a lot of surprises, including the attempted assassination of The Donald and the elevation of the Veep.

Her coronation is just days away now, at least by the Democrats – who love that sort of thing with the likes of Obama and whoever it was that lost to Trump in 2016 and then Uncle Joe himself. And like the Prodigal Son of New Testament Fame, dear Cammie is spending her political father’s money like water. (One of her political fathers, at least.)

But our last comments months ago still are just as true as then: Except we can add another couple of people to what we wrote: But when we get right down to it, how much difference would there be whether it is The Donald, Uncle Joe, Mr. Ron, Mr. Gavin, or Ms. Michelle? Or Cammie? Or RFK Jr.? or for that matter, Mr. Oliver?

Again, we point out:

Governments will still be the enemies of liberty, in rebellion against God and natural law and common sense, still little more (if that) than cabals of thieves and tyrants (petty and on up), and still doing their best to destroy civilization, kill and/or enslave people, and otherwise behave as they are doing today. Especially the FedGov.

Yes, there might be some things that get more worse – or even slightly better – if one or the other wins. There might be a few delays in the ultimate collapse of the governments we have today. But a serious difference? Not just because we change who occupies the White House. Or even whom we send to Congress (or keep there until they die).

If we want things to get better, we have to change ourselves, our families, our neighbors, and our communities – even our political and moral enemies.

We have no reason to doubt this even today: Harris-Walz may speed up the decay of both the FedGov and our society and culture. As compared to Trump. But The Donald is only better by comparison to her.

At least that is how it seems to us here on 18 August 2024.

Trump might not be great, but he’s the best option.

Every aspect of government has been infected by the Democrats and their thirst for power. Every aspect of government now acts in a partisan manner against the enemies of the Democratic Party.

The Federal Government is an existential threat to all of us, but is an immediate threat to Trump and his family. He is the candidate most likely to reduce it in size, scope, and power.

Trump, because no one else will even try.
