Consider Alferd Packer of Colorado gold rush fame. According to the local newspaper, the judge’s sentencing statement went like this:
Stand up yah voracious man-eatin’ sonofabitch and receive yir sintince. When yah came to Hinsdale County, there was siven Dimmycrats. But you, yah et five of ’em, goddam yah. I sintince yah t’ be hanged by th’ neck ontil yer dead, dead, dead, as a warnin’ ag’in reducin’ th’ Dimmycratic populayshun of this county. Packer, you Republican cannibal, I would sintince ya ta hell but the statutes forbid it.[23]
But the really evil, perverted types of cannibals, whatever their excuse, will eat even their own. Not just those they don’t think are “real people.”
Again, having looked at a Republican (if indeed Packer was), consider the words of “Independent” (Socialist) Bernie Sanders, just hours after the massive defeat of the Democratic Party in 2024:
It should come as no great surprise that a Democratic Party which has abandoned working class people would find that the working class has abandoned them. First, it was the white working class, and now it is Latino and Black workers as well. While the Democratic leadership defends the status quo, the American people are angry and want change. And they’re right.
Of course, the Democratic Party abandoned a lot more than just the working class. Look at the list of politicians, business owners and entrepreneurs, and even some entertainer/celebrities that either abandoned Harris and Walz (and Uncle Joe and Obummer, etc.) for The Donald. And how many more must have just decided to fold their hand: what happened to all those 4 or 5 million votes Uncle Joe supposedly got 4 years ago? Lots and lots of people were lost to the party that claims Jefferson and Jackson.
Including dedicated socialists like Bernie. A long time ago.
This isn’t about Bernie, though: it is about the Democrats as a whole. Bernie knows that the Democrats eat their own: they turn against – and often devour metamorphically (and sometimes kill or let be killed) – their supporters: voters, donors, protesters, and more. The Woke version of Democrats, in particular, have created a long, bloody trail of their erstwhile allies who have committed the unforgivable sin of not agreeing 100% with their precious biases. An example is J.K. Rowling, condemned because her “progressivism” does not extend to the transgender sports madness. In an earlier age, this mob would have dug up the bones of JFK and FDR to burn them at the stake for the sacrilege of not adhering strictly to the (so-called) mores of 2024 instead of 1963 or 1945.
Following the Democratic disaster of 5 November 2024 (Ah, so honoring of Guy Fawkes!) American regressives of course have condemned the voters of the States constantly: we are “more fascist” than they feared. And they are bitter towards the supposed lies and money and dirty tricks of their victorious opponents. Which have beguiled the poor, ignorant, superstitious and pitiful voters and reenforced their leanings towards “right-wing tyranny.”
(For once, they cannot blame the rapidly-collapsing Libertarian Party. Chase Oliver could not even get as many votes as RFK, Jr. who withdrew from the race well before voting started. More than one observer has noted the LP – certainly at the national level but also in many States – is moribund. Fortunately the cause of liberty and the philosophy of libertarian political thought are not dependent on the LP. Indeed, we could also talk about the cannibalism of many LP types.)
But it seems that the really juicy targets for Democratic loyalists are the very people they see in their mirrors. The few successful Democratic vote-winners (yes, there are some) have much to be angry about. For the list of errors made is long, and the list of those responsible for it is even longer. It includes the very top of their pyramid: Clintons and Obamas and the puppet masters of Uncle Joe. The reality? They have only themselves to blame.
