It is now less than two months before The Donald again assumes duties as Massa. That is, as President of the United States: the most powerful office in world history: an elected tyrant or monarch that ultimately has more power than any other ruler on the planet, and in 6,000-7,000 years. More potential power, even if he and his predecessors have never exercised it.
Of course, Uncle Joe (and the people who try to and often do apparently control him) had that for four years and we are still here. Things may be bad, but they could be far worse. Will it be any different with The Donald?
Is disaster on the horizon – are we watching the clock tick down to “doomsday,” as the talking heads seem to push?
Or could we once again muddle through and avoid the disasters that so many people think they see coming. But fear sells, so…
We say two months, assuming that something doesn’t happen. To Orange-Man-Bad, to the FedGov, to the entire planet, of course. There are a lot of things, of course, that can happen. He can have a stroke, a heart attack, or a successful wannabe assassin. He could have a car crash or a plane crash; someone could poison him, stab him, or figure out some way to get a judge to put him behind bars. Theoretically, a Woke military could stage a coup and keep him from taking office.
A Chinese or Russian (or French or British or Pakistani) nuke could be delivered in a shipping container to a warehouse or truck stop in the DC area or near Mar-A-Largo. Or any other venue where The Donal might be. It might not even have to be a nuclear weapon: it could be a dirty conventional bomb (ANFO with a lot of radioactive waste wrapped around it. It could be a fuel-air explosive or some other weapon. Even an IED. It could even be a serving elected official or high-level political appointee or bureaucrat.
Meanwhile, living on borrowed (or providentially-provided) time, The Donald seems confident that he can change the federal government in a truly incredible way – and rapidly: more than what Wilson or FDR or even Honest Abe did. A lot of what he is planning (and actively working towards) is very much good news to lovers of liberty. Reason.com is even publishing a series of discussions on abolishing various government agencies, such as EPA and the Department of Education. At the same time, other Trump proposals give libertarians the heebe-jeebies. Lew Rockwell’s article on tariffs is an example, opposing The Donald’s attempt to revive the American Plan of a century ago.
Of course, these plans of The Donald – even those that freak out libertarians – freak out the Woke and the powers-that-be in the Democratic Party and their allies even more. They are already working, as the clock runs down, to Trump-proof the FedGov and the entire nation against these proposals. That effort will not end on 20 January 2025. Indeed, it will ramp up and frankly, the more civilian (and military) government goons that Trump is able to flush out of the FedGov, the more manpower they will have available to do it. Not just gum up the works, but cause the entire system to fail.
And face it, the current state of the economy and the FedGov (and most State governments) is very much like a Rube Goldberg mechanism that is vibrating itself to pieces. It is incredible while it still works, but a breakdown is likely to be catastrophic.
This all sounds very pessimistic, we know. But how far can we expect luck – and God’s providence – to keep all of this functioning? We are blessed that we’ve made it this far!
So what do we do? Be prepared, be flexible, and above all, teach others to do the same. Find and make allies: family, neighbors, fellow church and club members, business workers and owners, yes, and even government workers. Think about what gets done and who really does the things to keep your community functioning and intact, and what might happen when the balloon goes up. Whether it is a nuke in Russia or Ukraine, another hurricane, a blizzard, a breakdown in communications or transportation. And, as Douglas Adams constantly reminded us: Don’t Panic! If we muddle through, the work we do will help us personally and as communities in the future.

Can things get better in the next two months?
