Today, Friday, 22 November 2024, is the 61st anniversary of the assassination of John Fitzgerald Kennedy, the 35th President of these United States. A very public event, yet still decades later shrouded in mystery.
It never hurts to look back and compare then with now. Let’s do that briefly.
The United States of America was a very different place then. In beliefs, in technology, population, society, standards of living, and much else. His life spanned the middle of the 20th Century, and America’s rise to power as perhaps the greatest empire in world history. (Never mind that virtually no one called it that, then or now.) The differences are stark in every way.
Including politics. By modern standards, JFK would be considered a rather conservative Democrat, despite his then impeccable “Progressive” standards. Though worshipped almost as a demigod today, his political positions would be considered horrible, even evil, by today’s Democrats. Indeed, even with his charisma and energy, it is very unlikely that he could be elected to Congress today – even as a Republican. Especially from Massachusetts.
And the Democratic Party of 1960-1963 was full of the very sorts of “evil” that the Democratic Party of 2024 claims to condemn.
Yet, in some ways, JFK’s beliefs and personal actions and history would fit right in with either major party today. And we can see the seeds of the corruption we take for granted in both those parties in him and his time. (Yes, the parties were corrupt then, but perhaps far less than we see in 2024.)
A lot of people back in 1960 were worried that JFK would have more loyalty to the Pope (the Roman Catholic Church) than to the US Constitution. (The same issue had been raised back in the 1930s with an earlier presidential candidate.) Today, of course, we know that elected officials such as well-known Roman Catholics Nancy Pelosi and Joe Biden not only ignore the Pope and Roman Catholic doctrine, but the US Constitution. Not only ignore the tenets of their own religion but try to force millions of other people to ignore them as well. To violate their consciences and claim that the US Constitution demands that violation.
JFK was the well-known son of a gangster: a law-breaking bootlegger who made a vast fortune in doing so. But at least, unlike many modern gangsters, Joe was patriotic. His sons mostly served in the US military during WW2. Of course, FDR had “rehabilitated” the gangster when he appointed the descendent of Irish refugees to be the US ambassador to the United Kingdom, precisely because Joe hated the Brits so much. And JFK of course inherited that ill-gotten wealth, or would have.
JFK was a womanizer: a serial adulterer according to most accounts. In other words, he couldn’t keep his pants zipped up. Of course, both Ike and LBJ were also known for being adulterers. Today, though, the Woke and many religious people proclaim that such makes Trump unworthy of office. JFK? No one seemed to care. Or does today.
It is now tacitly admitted that Mayor Daly of Chicago helped steal the election of 1960 for JFK. The Illinois Democratic machine was scarcely alone in that effort: there were many cooks. LBJ, for one, had a machine in Texas that had let him steal the 1948 election for Senate. Looking back from a more suspicious and sophisticated era, it is easy to see just how the con-job was done.
While we will almost certainly never know who was involved with, and why, JFK was killed in Dallas that Fall day, lots of people have any number of ideas. More and more people see the hand of the CIA and LBJ in the successful effort. Is it any wonder that Trumpistas today worry that the various assassination attempts on The Donald might be encouraged or even orchestrated by the Deep State and by the politicians who are backed by and back that entity?
Although today, LBJ is blamed for the start of US involvement is SE Asia, in reality both Ike and JFK started and pushed that effort. Although JFK is noted for preventing the actual outbreak of nuclear war during the Cuban Missile Crisis, it was his actions and those of his regime that pushed things to the brink.
Camelot was a fraud. And JFK, if not an outright fraud, was both a front man for a good many things and people that have led to our situation 61 years later.
Assuming we can even look back from 2085 at 2024 and what is going on now, will we see fifty nations which came to their senses or which further slid into the tyranny
