A correspondent expressed this concern on Monday – someone who has strongly supported The Donald even while recognizing that the man is not particularly likeable or very moral. She is concerned that Trump is both doing too many things and moving too fast.
Of course, Monday was also the day that seemingly Panama, Mexico, and Canada seemed to start caving in to Trump’s “evil” demands. After screaming about how bad the demands were, and getting much of the world to back them: they seem to be backing down.
The news stories said that the tariffs went into effect on Saturday the first. The internet and airwaves were filled with screams of outrage that Trump was an authoritarian dictator that wanted to bankrupt Americans and didn’t understand how horrible tariffs were. And That was followed up by a call this morning between the Mexican president and Trump and then this afternoon with a call between the Canadian premier and Trump.
In those calls it seems they agreed to do certain things, such as more troops on the border between the Mexican States and the four American States.
We suspect that Trudeau backed off of his threats when the CEO of Toronto Dominion Bank (and no doubt many others) said they thought Trump was right and Trudeau was stupidly wrong – and would therefore not support it.
So as we understand it, Trump put the tariffs on hold for 30 days to allow for further negotiations, on the rest of the demands he was making.
We’ve not heard whether imports from Canada and Mexico had to pay tariffs on Saturday and Sunday. It may be that they did so. But nobody is reporting it. However all of the mainstream media continues to scream about how this is going to cost Americans billions of dollars in additional costs for these products.
(A Canadian correspondent jokes that Canada really doesn’t produce anything. That they design it but it’s all built in China or Japan or Mexico. So they don’t need to worry about the tariffs.)
All of this seems to be SOP for Trump as he makes a deal.
That also seems to be the case with both Greenland and Panama. Panama, after all their screaming, also seems to have accepted and offered something to avoid triggering the treaty provision that specifically authorizes US military intervention if the neutrality of the Canal is compromised.
Some people believe that Panama should have been admitted to the union way back in 1914. It is believed that most Panamanians by that time were speaking English. Certainly as many percentage-wise as New Mexicans and perhaps even Arizonans. Water under the bridge, of course.
Trump and his advisors realize that he has a very short window of opportunity. While the deep state gets a handle on things and tries to seriously shut things down, instead of just screaming. So we see that Trump is doing a lot of things very quickly.
And certainly Trump knows that 100% success is virtually impossible. Anyone involved in projects and business knows that many projects fail: but that is part of the risk of doing business!
Out of curiosity, what things are Trump and his gang getting done under the radar? Just asking!

Is The Donald moving too fast?
