Public school corruption and charter schools

The failure of SCOTUS to make a decision on the Oklahoma Catholic charter school case is another reason that we must separate schools – education – from the state – government.

And in doing so, liberate millions of Americans – indeed hundreds of millions – from the slavery of taxes. Taxes paid on their income, and taxes paid on their property: both real and personal.

Much of the funding of the bloated and ineffective public school systems comes from the FedGov: that is, money stolen by income taxes from living taxpayers and from future taxpayers by borrowing. State governments, in turn, gift these school systems with billions, mostly using income and sales taxes, again stolen from those who actually work and who buy things. And local governments: school districts or municipalities that run the institutions, provide the third leg of financing primarily through property taxes.

We know the truth of it: the money isn’t really spent on the students in these schools: instead the incredible amounts of money go to contractors who build and maintain the elaborate school campuses, to the unionized teachers and administrators who run the institutions and supposedly educate the children, and the incredible number of parasites which supply books, supplies, and everything else consumed: from school meals and milk to busing services to toys. And let us not forget how much of most school system budgets go to recreation: no, not so much playgrounds and equipment and recess as to the vast sports programs, with magnificent facilities, coaching staff, transportation, uniforms, medical care, and so much more.

All reasons that government-run, tax-funded (GRTF) schools are so insanely expensive – and also why these institutions are so absolutely worthless at actually teaching children necessary skills to make a living, care for themselves and others, and be responsible members of families and communities. The money funds massive amounts of corruption: teachers who do not have the knowledge necessary to teach their subjects, bureaucrats who no longer even produce reams of paper (instead, electrons), service providers who provide unneeded, unwanted, and poor quality “services” and more. And of course, indirectly pay billions to corrupt politicians in the form of campaign funds and other benefits in a vicious circle.

Another court decision (as detailed by KOTA TV) appears to have stymied attempts by The Donald to even somewhat reduce the government control and the corruption it generates: a lower-court judge has again demonstrated we are more and more a kritarchy (government by judges). The judge has forbidden the President from firing people who supposedly work for him and from dismantling the US Department of Education.

(Of course, the usual suspects are cheering: the unions, the local and state politicians, the purveyors of textbooks and school buses, and lunches (and breakfasts), etc. Those who benefit from an agency that has failed from its very creation to accomplish the reasons it was supposed to do.

But here’s the thing: charter schools are at best a version of GRTF-light: they are allowed a tiny bit of freedom from the intolerable burdens of politicians, unions, and other negative impacts of still being government-run institutions. Some but not all, by any means. They are still tax (theft) funded, and still under government control. As this Supreme Court case and the now-“unconstitutional” action of the Oklahoma legislature demonstrates.

But even a small reduction in government control, and a small expansion of the power of parents to decide how to teach their children (while not being ripped off by government for services they don’t want and don’t use) is anathema to the educrats, the judges, and the other parasites.

The obvious solution is unlikely to be implemented short of total collapse or successful (non-Marxist) revolution: end the power of government at any level to interfere with education. And at the same time, stop government from stealing the money used to intervene. Any level: from the bloated branches of the FedGov in DC (and elsewhere) down to the local school district boards of education. All of it.

Otherwise, corruption and failure will continue to haunt us – and likely destroy the future of our communities and far, far too many people.
