Now, these are pretty harsh words, right? Immediately, a lot of people. Apparently, MSN and The Daily Beast called this “an unhinged rant.”

What is particularly interesting is that many of these anti-Trumpers claimed that this was an attack on Democrats and the entire Democratic Party. Read the message again: do you see “Democrats” or “Democratic Party” anywhere? We don’t.

But the hit dog barks: perhaps people are upset more at the truth stated, however crassly and harshly.

One social media Trump-hater (fearer?), a guy named Thom Hartmann, explained at length, that The Donald had labeled “over 45 million American citizens – as ‘scum'” and called it an escalation. This guy then expands his accusation, saying that Trump called everyone who didn’t vote for him “scum.” Again, we invite the reader to re-read that posting above. We still cannot see “Democrat” or “Democratic Party” there. Nor can we see where Trump mentioned people who did not vote for him. Perhaps our eyesight is getting worse?

Hartmann ends his own diatribe with “… once a president gets away with calling fellow Americans “scum,” it’s only a matter of time before he treats them that way.”

My, oh my. It is, of course, a sad fact that many Americans are indeed scum. Webster’s defines that as “a low, vile, or worthless person or group of people.” We see that every day: Democrats, Republicans, Libertarians, Conservatives, Liberals, and apolitical people like that can be found in every community, every State. And yes, even in DC, FedGov office buildings, and the Capitol and White House. They are an undesirable element of society, but it is impossible.

Trump is not really a nice guy (though he does some nice things now and then). He is a foul-mouthed, often rude, egotistical man who is wrong on many, many things. But is he the inhuman monster that so many in government and the media and academia claim he is? We beg to differ.

Is it not truly ironic that the very people that Hartmann, MSN, The Daily Beast, and so many others attack this man for in essence saying the same thing that various and sundry (but not all) political talking heads and media voices for the last 30 years? Or longer? Again, it seems to be “who” says it, and not actually what is said.

The truth? Perhaps The Donald exaggerated a bit – but the people who do things like he lists are almost certainly accurately described by the derogatory term “scum.”

And need to be called that and treated like that: low and vile (but NOT worthless) people whom we need to protect each other from, and need to be prepared to defend ourselves, our families, and our communities from. From first their words, and then their deeds. Not in revenge, and not in some form of perverted preemptive “justice” but in self-defense.

Regardless of their political party, voting record, occupation, ancestry, color or creed.
