the The passing of the former One Big Beautiful Bill (OBBB) combined with the shocking claims by the DOJ and FBI regarding the infamous, deceased Jeffrey Epstein, combined with mass efforts by various parts of the judicial system, the Woke and other anti-Trumpers – and the media – have brought The Donald back into the (metaphorical) firing line.
Efforts to impeach him have gone nowhere. Although GOP types suspiciously are retiring/resigning from Congress narrowing the tiny Republican majority in the House of Representatives, so far there are not enough votes to get articles of impeachment, and Speaker Johnson both remains in power and in The Donald’s good graces. (We do wonder, now and then, at the real reasons that so many of these GOP representatives are hanging up their hats. Is it “influencers” who have replaced the old German Dritte Reich custom of shortening the lives of deputies? A “kinder and gentler” type of pressure? (At least kinder than what now seems to be the practice in today’s Russia and Ukraine. One wonders.)
As a result, various and sundry conservatives, Trumpistas, and even a few Libertarians have rallied to his defense. One of those is the popular (and assuredly hated) Victor Davis Hanson. He recently wrote this:
With all due respect, Mr. Hanson, following many of the precedents set by Obummer and Uncle Joe would definitely make The Donald an Autocrat. If not an outright authoritarian Tyrant. This isn’t much of a defense of the man.
Especially not when you contrast it to the incredible attacks by Democrats, the Woke, and many GOP never-Trumpers. Even though the worse of their claims have been proven (by time, if nothing else) to be totally wrong.
We are nearly six months into the Trump 2.0 regime. And whatever deficiencies the regime has (and we see that they are plenty and growing), we still don’t see the massive concentration camps, “Final Solution” processing centers, wholesale arrests of media and celebrities, and all the other things the Demos, the Mainstream Media, and those celebrities are screaming about.
Goodness gracious, The Donald must be… Well, we dunno. Old? Weak? Tired? Even more a manipulator and disciple of Machievelli than even his enemies thought?
Indeed, while some of his actions regrettably do follow the examples that his last two predecessors established, he seems to have rejected (or forgotten to do?) most of them: not lording it over the States too much. Not even California and New Jersey and New York! Not treating a lot of Americans as expendables. And at least a few other things that we at TPOL (and many others) complained about. And condemned Obummer, Uncle Joe and Kammie the Commie for doing.
We are NOT saying that we are Trumpistas. The man is immoral, arrogant, and apparently refuses to follow the spirit and even the letter of the Constitution. Just like every one of his predecessors in the White House going back to before Honest Abe. But compared to the alternatives – even many GOP members – likely to get elected? He is far more to be preferred.
If nothing else, he buys us time to proclaim liberty throughout all the land and the inhabitants thereof, and prepare for the still very likely inevitable collapse of the entire FedGov and the American empire.
