Political correctness – fighting crime? really?

With these last four unacceptable (“banned”) words from the highly intelligent and very wise folks at ThirdWay.org, we conclude our series on Political correctness. (We are being, of course sarcastic. Really.)

Third Way itself tells us, these words say: “The criminal is the victim. The victim is an afterthought.” Since that does seem to be the mindset of most Regressives – the Woke – these are clearly going to be hard for the Woke to stop using. Even though it may make sense from their point of view.

  1. Justice-involved. Well, lots and lots of people are involved in the “justice system.” Unfortunately, few of these people are actually involved in real justice. But apparently this buzzword is basically an attempt to sidestep such unfortunate and prejudiced terms as “the accused” or “the defendant” or even the act of being charged with a crime and having to go to court.
  2. Carceration. A strange word, usually defined as an obsolete or outdated synonym for incarceration or imprisonment. Clearly, an attempt to not use words which might hurt someone’s feelings or imply disapproval or disappointment!
  3. Incarcerated people. Ah! A six-syllable phrase to sound more learned than the nice, simple “prisoner” or even (if less specific) “convict” or “felon.” Like the last word, this clear attempt to twist English word definitions to sway people’s minds (read: “brainwash ’em”) generally does the opposite – except to those who have been so warped (say, in public schools) that they agree already.
  4. Involuntary confinement. An interesting term: obviously, since 2020, there are (supposedly) examples of “voluntary confinement.” And we note that women (excuse us, “pregnant people”) who are bearing a child (whoops, “have a fetus occupying their body) who is near term were once upon a time referred as being “in confinement” and it is traditional in many cultures for a new mother to have “postpartum confinement.” We assume that these are not involuntary, although admittedly the new mother presumably volunteered nine months previously to the practice when the child was conceived. Again, we suspect the word is used to tone down the idea of criminals actually being in jail or prison, especially in pre-conviction circumstances.

We are told that “people” deserve to feel safe where they live, work, and go to school, by Third Way. Notice it is “feel” and not actually “be” safe in those places. Since real safety implies measures to provide safety. And that leads to self-defense and to the God-given right to keep and bear arms. Can’t have that, can we? Supposedly the Woke have made progress on criminal justice “reform” despite refusing to accept (or recognize, much less mention) the reality that criminals voluntarily commit crimes and must be dealt with by society.

Conclusion

Third Way is likely to be ignored by their fellow “liberals” in their encouragement to avoid these words “when talking to the public.” (Apparently it is okay to use these words when speaking to other Woke individuals: they’ve been converted.)

And they are absolutely right: the Regressives using these words are indeed a red flag to much (perhaps most) the American electorate. For perfectly valid reasons – all the tools the Woke have weaponized to strike at other people. But we doubt if the vast majority of the social justice warriors are going to realize this, and how much talking like this makes normal people distrust them.

Which is good for those who love liberty and desire peace, prosperity, and rationality and politeness.

Again, even if these are replaced by other words, the mental processes (we give the benefit of the doubt) that use these words is one in which only groups matter. Not individuals. Again, we point out that we deplore the concept of races, much less the racism it facilitates. We are all of the human race, created by the Creator and each one different. To speak of the white race, the black race, people of color, the Slavic race, the Spanish race, the Hispanic race, the Arabic race, etc. is to build barriers between us. And to promote never seeing anyone as an individual, but only as a member of some group. To try and excuse criminals for their criminal, immoral acts just further damages society and especially individiuals. Not just the victims, but the criminals themselves.
