Libertarian Commentary on the News, 05 OCT 2015, #15-40A: Responsibility, stupidity, and (evil) cops

By Nathan Barton

Reading this, published by World Net Daily was enough to make me sicker to my stomach. Parents have to try and understand their children, and sometimes make apologies and amends for the behavior even of their adult chilldren. But the father of the murdering madman who shot and killed so many people in an Oregon college’s campus last week is not doing that. It is everyone (things) fault but his son’s. “That’s what guns are,” the killer’s father stated. “The killers. It’s as simple as that. It’s black and white.” The facts are even simpler: His son massacred nine people and wounded seven more, some severely. Mercer also blames Congress for not enacting more stringent gun laws. “They talk about gun laws,” he said. “They talk about gun control. Every time something like this happens, they talk about it and nothing is done.”

Some pundits wondered if Mercer believes the ammunition was a co-conspirator in the community college bloodbath. As long as people refuse to accept responsibility and refuse to DEMAND responsibility for actions, these things will continue. People point out that if these parents KNEW their son had significant mental problems (no word on what, if any, prescription drugs he was on, by the way) and KNEW he was collecting weapons and ammo and KNEW he was talking up mass murders and murderers, why didn’t THEY do something about it?

Speaking of guns doing it; apparently at least ONE presidential candidate, for all his faults, does not blame guns. Newsmax discusses Trump’s revelation that he carries a concealed weapon and has a permit for such from the State of New York. Would that ALL presidential candidates were armed AND understood AND supported the God-given right of self-defense for ALL people. And it is clear more and more each day that we need the ability to protect ourselves.

Mama’s Note: My only gripe with Trump over this is the fact that he’s part of the special “only ones” who can get a “permit” in New York – where very few others can. Not that anyone should have to beg for government “permission” to defend themselves.

That protection is against the “recognized” criminals: the home invaders and stick-up artists and carjackers and rapists and muggers. AND it is against too many of the people that are SUPPOSEDLY protecting us against those “recognized” criminals. Like Cops, evil, twisted torturers and killers who infest the ranks. Many are drug dealers, others just corrupt in various ways.  Too many are parasites. All too often, their brother cops back them and encourage them and protect them. Consider these following stories from the Free Thought Project. DEA Agents are taking and selling drugs themselves: parasites on parasites. And almost NONE of the crooked, corrupt, evil agents are being punished. They get a free pass.

Mama’s Note: As far as drugs are concerned, no amount of “punishment” is going to solve the problem, even if the government suddenly became honest. Elimination of the prohibition would revolutionize the entire climate of corruption and violent crime perpetrated by both drug users/providers and government employees at all levels. Which is exactly why it will never happen if it depends on government to stop the “war on drugs.” It is entirely too profitable for them, and gives them the highs of power that is their most devastating addiction.

Got a problem child, or they have wandered off? At your wit’s end? Above all, DON’T call the cops. A mother was searching frantically for her adult, autistic, and non-verbal son and called the police for help in finding him. They did, all right, and beat and tazed him so much that he is now in the hospital. Abusive, uneducated, stupid, and unobservant cops deserve the same cruel and unusual punish they gave this innocent childlike man.

More and more cops love their virtually unrestricted ability to beat and torture people with little or no excuse. In Florida, a thug in uniform with 21 excessive force complaints, and on “desk-duty” while being investigated for kicking a handcuffed man laying on the ground, finds he can STILL enjoy himself, by beating an innocent teen right there in the police station.

In Baltimore, Maryland, recent scene of protests and a near civil war over police killing without cause, another incident has people angry. A senior police officer apparently drove past an innocent, unarmed man, got out and accosted him, and then shot him because “he didn’t take his hands out of his pockets fast enough.” Wonder what “frustrations” these two thugs were working off?

These murdering, abusing, cruel, cops love to take the law into their own hands. Concerned about too many people driving under the influence? Get a load of this. This cop BEAT a man for DUI.  Way to go, the courts would just slap his hands, right? But when the Missouri man is 70 years old and suffering a stroke (the reason he drove eradically and off the road) and WAS NOT drinking or drugging and driving, maybe this isn’t such a good idea.

Of course, some American cops are not the only ones who are abusive and evil. Reuters reports on a hideous situation in Guatemala. In 2012, nearly 90 percent of all pregnancies among Guatemalan girls under 14 involved relatives, including cousins and uncles, of which 30 percent were the result of rape by fathers, according to Guatemala’s human rights ombudsman. Why? We can come up with many explanations, but clearly society and families do not care, do not teach their members properly how to behave like humans (much less christians, which supposedly most Guatemalans are), and do not make people accept responsibility for their actions and those of their families.

Of course, going to the police and the courts will NOT solve the problems, as more news stories show. After all, the courts and the police and the bureaucracies in our cities and towns are there to protect us?  Right?  The Free Thought Project tells about a man in Minnesota who has gone to jail for six months in an attempt to protect his house from damage, after a court refused to pay attention to engineering stating the demand to remove an abandoned foundation was stupid. He violated the law by putting up a power turbine (a windmill) on his property without slavishly obtaining the proper permission slips from local government. So, ultimately, the guns come out and the guy gets marched through a kangaroo court and sent to jail.

Who are the good guys?  No one, apparently.  Doctors without Frontiers’ clinic complex was attacked by precision-guided ordinance in Kunduz, Afghanistan, as The Free Press Project describes. Supposedly Afghan local officials called for fire support, claiming that they were taking fire from the hospital complex, which was then leveled, killing dozens of doctors and other staff and patients. Keep in mind these are the same kind of “local Afghan officials” who rape children and then escape their deserved punishment while those who try to prevent the rapes are punished. A bootlicking military is NOT what protects our freedoms: it is what can be used to STEAL them. As well as committing acts which are PROPERLY violations of international law, to protect medical personnel and the wounded.

Not that protecting the innocent seems to be ANYone’s priority now. Consider Syria: Perry Willis and a fellow author at Downsize DC have joined my call (and that of others) for (fancy term here) “nonintervention” in the war in Syria: or as I think I said, get OUT of Syria and let them fight and kill each other. Without the tools and expertise provided by Western forces (and I now include the Russians in that), the local enemies will at least partially run out of weapons and their “Inshallah” attitude means they will soon be unable to effectively wage war. They’ll still be killing each other, of course. But all of the West’s attempts to prevent violence abroad work just as well as the government’s and Tranzis’ attempts to prevent gun violence at home.
