With the New Year, her Majesty’s Scottish subjects lose a little bit more of their liberty – the little they have left under the draconian-nanny Labour government, as entrenched north of Hadrian’s Wall as the Democrats are in California or New England, where even the staunchest GOP types smell just like Democrats.

The Courier reports that beginning on January 1st, airguns must be registered with the police. Yep: BB guns and pellet guns. (Couldn’t find out whether or not Airsoft guns are included: I assume that they are, since adding a needle (and a dab of poison) to one of those orange cylinders COULD kill someone if fired at a close-enough range.)

Once you start seriously sliding down that slick path, there is nothing that can’t be prohibited, from box-cutters to steak knives (or at least ones with pointy tips).

The latest mass shooting, by an ex-soldier in a Florida airport baggage claim area, was used nearly instantly by a meddling, Tranzi, hoplophobic and hoploclastic Congress critter to demand MORE controls. With no idea of motive or even really who did it, and certainly no understanding of the concept that if there had been even another armed person on that or another flight getting their baggage at the same time very few would have died or even been wounded, she wants action to take guns away from more people, prohibit guns from being transported in more ways, and push the entire hoploclastic agenda. Any excuse…

Fortunately, it seems that more and more people – even some politicians – are seeing through the excuses and not accepting them any more. Apparently even some Florida legislators. They’ve introduced a bill to REMOVE at least some gun-free zones, such as the one at the airport. So that people have a chance to protect themselves and others from the scum that not only do not obey the laws but are interesting in killing people. My, what a dangerous idea! Even Democracy Now! reported on the story, admittedly just as you would expect THAT kind of Tranzi rag to do: scream and whinge how horrible an idea, and how it is, in fact, very important to use ANY excuse to disarm people.

It is, of course, more than just disarming them. It is taking taking away, in too many cases, their very lives. Five dead in Florida, and eight wounded: seriously enough, perhaps to shorten their lives significantly, and make their lives very unpleasant for quite some time. So it is not just the dead. And not just the dead and the wounded. Or their families. Or their communities. Taking away their guns for any excuse, means that the people lose their protection from those who would kill, wound, torture, threaten, steal from, and yes, enslave. They are at the mercy of people, villains in the true sense, who would use “any excuse” to do these things to them.

And even though the hoplophobes and hoploclasts do not themselves snap on the leg-irons, seize the money and property, wield the whips and nutcrackers, brandish the weapons to trigger terror and use the weapons to attack and kill innocents, the blood and fortunes and everything else lost by those victims is on their hands. They are the enablers, they are the facilitators.

It is a conundrum that people have faced since the Creation: it is NOT just the actual thugs – whatever they are called – carrying the weapons and using their fists and boots who are the enemies that must be resisted and destroyed if we are to stop the evil: it is those who hire them or otherwise support them and order them – yes, and even instruct them – who must be confronted, fought, defeated, and destroyed.

Mama’s Note: One of the excuses made so often is the idiotic notion that, without banning guns, the police (and presumably everyone else) will not be able to tell the good guys from the bad ones. They ignore the simple fact that they can’t tell ahead of time anyway.
