Fighting against The Donald is not wrong. The way in which the “Antifa” (Anti-Fascist) fights IS wrong. (Starting of course, with its definition of what is fascism.)
The recent incident in Northern Colorado, where a teacher had her class “celebrate” Cinco-de-Mayo by having them smash a piñata with Trump’s picture, is a perfect example. Of course, here, the teacher (now on administrative leave just like killer cops) may have taken it too far, and must herself be punished en camera for not doing this attack on Trump at the right place and in the right way. I presume that if the teacher had requested “release time” for her students to have a “learning experience” for Cinco-de-Mayo off-campus, it might have been acceptable.
But the point about schools is that they are seen by the Tranzis and their like to be valuable sites to conduct things such as this. The “educational value” of this activity was determined by the opportunity to propagandize young minds, either to reinforce what they have already been taught or to wipe out what they believed (and perhaps were taught by their parents).
In discussing this in the last few days, I got several reactions. One was to comment on the “fascist atmosphere” of public school today – but others pointed out this is “against fascism” as embodied by The Donald. Others pointed out that if the last guy at 1600 PA had been on the pinata, the response would have been very, very different.
But these comments beg the question – the charges for or against “fascism” are not the point. Keep in mind that the most vigorous and sacrificial role in the fight against the “original” fascism in Europe in 1923-1945 was taken by the Communists: the international progressives against the national progressives. Indeed, the Soviets then (and even Russians today) pushed the war in Europe (from 1941 to 1945) as a war against Fascism.
Perhaps for the same reason that the wars between Protestants and Catholics were far longer and bloodier than the wars in the same era between Christians and Muslims; near-like fights near-light with more vigor and passion than the truly different. Fascists and Communists had far more in common with each other than either did with the democracies and plutocracies of the West.)
(Back to the 20th Century: The same thing is seen in the government-run, tax-funded schools in the Fifty States today. Statists – of whichever wing they claim to be – are spending far more time and effort fighting each other than they are either the lovers and promoters of liberty or the more hard-core tyrannies of Muslims, remnants of Communism, or something similar.)
As a result (among many others), students and teachers are unable to define and therefore distinguish what is (and is not) fascism. And indeed, what is and is not truth.
There are those who want to enlist libertarians (and even anarchists) into the anti-fascist “struggle” , claiming it would be a return to the political philosophy’s roots. That is, clearly, a foolish claim – political “paleo-liberalism” (libertarianism) and the concept of humans and their society being free from the tyranny of human government long predates the invention of fascism, and for that matter, even those governments which can (in perfect 20-20 hindsight) be called “proto-fascism” or “paleo-fascism.” And it would ally lovers of liberty with the most extreme of statists, a bizarre twisting of reality than I can even understand. Knowing that “evil companions corrupt good morals,” I can see nothing but danger for liberty and its lovers. To call libertarians and free-market anarchists “anti-fascist” makes as little sense as proclaiming that henceforth, people who love and care for children are “Anti-child-abuse.” (AntiCA?) Or that “progressives” are “Anti-conservatism” (AntiCon?)
Especially since the AntiFa do not even understand exactly what they are so vehemently against! Like government after government, they seek enemies to justify their existence and to increase their power and influence. Which does the cause of liberty no good.
A pox on BOTH the Fascists and the AntiFa – give me plain old liberty anytime.
