A few weeks ago, Freedom Net Daily pointed to an editorial in The Week, “Will Trump’s loose lips lead to a military coup?” by Noah Millman.
“President Trump is alleged to have revealed to Russian officials, in the Oval Office, intelligence of a highly sensitive nature related to ISIS plots, intelligence whose revelation could well compromise not only American intelligence assets but those of our allies who provided the information. … if this new report is accurate, then a rubicon [sic] has been crossed that cannot be retraced. And in the absence of ‘tapes’ revealing that no conversation took place, why should anyone believe even the most strenuous denials? America’s military and intelligence services are therefore faced with a difficult dilemma. The only way to preserve America’s assets will be to routinize the violation of the chain of command by cordoning off the president from information that he properly needs to make informed decisions. Moreover, in order to reassure foreign allies, military and intelligence services will need to show their willingness to violate the chain of command in this fashion. It will need to become an open secret that the president of the United States is, in effect, no longer the president. The threat this poses to America’s democratic and constitutional system should not be minimized.”
I don’t know Noah Millman – think this is the first time I’ve read anything by him. He is supposed to be a Conservative, and is an enemy of Warren Buffet (which actually could endear him to me), and used to be a “financial engineer” – whatever that means.
But it seems to me that he is doing two things here:
First, he is implying that a coup (military or otherwise) is actually underway, supposedly to protect the FedGov and the world from the evils of The Donald.
Second, he seems to be ADVOCATING for a military coup. He is not the only one – either at home or in foreign climes. I do find it strange that a so-called conservative is even bringing up the subject, especially after the last eight years.
And a lot of people would welcome it. Not necessarily a military coup, but a coup. And without some military involvement, that attempt would fail: Obummer’s shadow government? Hillary’s nutty antics? Some deep GOP RINO plot? Inside or outside of Congress? Maybe some sort of bizarre NSA-FBI-CIA-SS plot? If none of these groups tried it during Bush II or Obummer’s reigns, will they try it now? Or is NOT doing it then make it more likely to try it now?
Perhaps it is no coincidence that Trump constantly speaks so highly of the military and made Armed Forces Day and Memorial Day such events – and so different from the last eight years. He knows who to keep happy.
Coup? Not likely. But as the Home Front continues to deteriorate, as tempers and emotions rise and as politics and governing become more vicious, is it totally ruled out? I don’t think so.
BY THE WAY: Although this is not the commentary I would have selected, this is (if I’m counting right), commentary number 1200, since Mama Liberty put us on WordPress. That is a lot of words, since they average around 700 words: 840,000.
Mama’s Note: And most of those posts are yours! Congratulations, Nathan. There would not be a “Price of Liberty” without you.
