This news comes from New Jersey, a “blue state” with a long history of abuses and tyrannical enactments.

According to AmmoLand and World Net Daily, perhaps as many as one million residents of New Jersey have failed to turn in “high-capacity” magazines by the statutory deadline of 11th of December, 2018.  This requirement (turn-in or take out of state) is part of a law signed into law in June.

The penalty for being found with a magazine with a capacity of greater than 10 rounds, regardless of caliber, is a fine of up to ten thousand dollars and up to eighteen months in jail. Having possession is a class four felony, which means that anyone convicted would permanently lose their right to own a weapon. They would be felons.

The courts, bless their black-robed little hearts and grey cells, have upheld the law, with a decision that (in the opinion of many) says the Second Amendment upholds a second-rate right. The law was part of a package of six gun laws signed on the 13th of June, 2018.

Yet, according to anonymous sources in the State Police, not a single magazine has been turned in. Not a single one that they know of. As it turns out, the NRA might have been wrong <grin>. When signed, the NRA warned that the legislation would have “virtually no impact on public safety and do little more than punish law-abiding gun owners.” So far, at least, there has been no punishment of any gun owners.

The gun owners, social outcasts that they are, have thumbed their nose at the governor and legislature of the Garden State. Even though the two houses of legislature are overwhelming Democratic and many GOP members in the state are also hoplophobes and hoploclasts.  But that doesn’t bother the scofflaws. The law is, at least for now, a joke.

And according to sources, no one “in power” really has a plan for dealing with this mass criminality. Its been more than two weeks since the deadline passed and not a single charge of illegal magazine ownership has been filed. Local police and State Police apparently have no plan for dealing with this level of lawbreaking. (Perhaps they could look back to their own history for some solution.  Such as hiring mercenaries to come assist the police, as King George III did with the Hessians.)

Of course, every one of the million gun owners (of about 9 million total population), are now NOT “law-abiding. Or at least those who own magazines with more than 10 round capacity. I realize that not all gunowners also own magazines of greater than 10-round capacity. But lets say that only one in five do: that is still 200,000 scofflaws. And probably more.

No doubt, when the next legislative assembly begins in January, 2019, it will be one of the highest priorities of the group.  They cannot allow so many residents of the state that they “control” to flaunt the law.  Can they?

No doubt, the entire state is rapidly sliding into a state of acute fear, no?  After all, 8 out of 9 residents don’t even own a gun – or at least not a “legal” gun. As has been demonstrated in other states that have ended bans on concealed carry or open carry, or who have even allowed concealed carry without a permit. Every day we hear reports of how morgues in places like Florida, Wyoming, Vermont, and elsewhere are overflowing with the victims of gun violence.  Every day we hear the news about dozens of cops and government officials lying dead in the streets at the hands (well, guns) of crazed gunowners.

New Jersey thought that it had sidestepped the bloodbath sweeping the nation by passing this law. The government officials understood the law-abiding nature of most all people in New Jersey.  Just as laws outlawing cocaine, meth, and abuse of painkillers have ended the danger of street drugs and overdoses in the Garden State, so would that 200 thousand (or more) bow down before the logic and power of the state government.

Alas, that did not happen. Instead, they have gotten open, if peaceful, rebellion.

I am sure that in their magnified, multiplied wisdom, the Senate and Assembly of New Jersey will take appropriate action both to punish these lawbreakers and round up all the illegal magazines, thus making the streets of New Jersey safe.

Right.

Actually, my real question is, what laws will the good people of New Jersey ignore next?  Might I suggest that neglecting to follow the law on such things as paying taxes, banning of smoking in public areas, and the like are an excellent follow up?

For those in New Jersey that are at wit’s end, consider moving elsewhere, at least for now.
