There is one clear loser across the Fifty States in yesterday’s election: liberty.
Both the Republicans and the Democrats have again shown that the “extremes” of their two parties seemingly have poisoned the political air even more in the past two years. That Americans are more divided than ever, and that propaganda is indeed king.
And by the way, the Libertarian Party across all the States has again demonstrated it is irrelevant.
Like the GOP, the LP did it to itself. Facing the kind of tyranny and ineptness in all levels of government, the messages did not get out; did not get heard; did not get listened to.
What’s next?
We still don’t know which old party will control either the Senate or the House there in DC. BUT we know that there are enough RINOs on the one side and quasi-blue-dog Democrats on the other to muddle politics again for the next two years. (And as Tom Knapp pointed out in a comment, the GOP is just doing what it has always done: it is “true” to its origins.)
And we can also be assured that the FedGov and the various State governments will continue to make incredibly stupid mistakes in attempts to maintain and increase their power and wealth.
At the same time, they are going to seek to take away our liberties, to steal freedom, in every way that they can think them. And they will continue to be backed by more and more private entities. Not just the big multi- and trans-national companies, but even the businesses based in your hometown and mine.
And the attitude will continue to filter down into the local levels.
Why?
Because the problem is not who is winning the elections. Rather, it is with the power and “benefits” of government: the power to force people to do certain things, NOT do even more things, and steal money to give to others and keep for themselves. And with the ability of government to corrupt people – and taint society.
We are and will hear a lot of election integrity, the toxicity of Trump, the worrying behavior of Biden, and a good many other things. But these are in essence symptoms of the disease. And that disease is mandatory human government and everyone’s enslavement to it.
Look for a rough ride in 2023-2025.
Of all the terms I can think of that “muddle politics,” RINO may be the worst.
The assumption that anti-liberty Republicans are “Republicans in Name Only” is contradicted by more than 150 years of evidence that the Republican Party as an organization is and always has been, and “real” Republicans are and always have been, a big-government/statist proposition.
If “Republican in Name Only” was anything but an excuse/distraction, it would be used to describe actual libertarians who are deluded enough to think that the GOP is their natural home, rather than conservatives who are just a tad more big-government/statist in some particular ways than others.
