Arrogant condescention or stupidity or…?

(Thanks to Scott for this!)

The FDA announced early last month that close to 80,000 pounds of Costco’s Kirkland Signature Butter was being pulled and that recall has just been upgraded to a Class II as of November 7.

Warning: (May) Contain Milk

The reason? “The labels did not contain the warning “Contains Milk” even though the ingredients listed include “cream.”

Scott speculated about whether Costco’s Kirkland Signature eggs are all labeled “contains egg” or not. I wonder about their bananas and lettuce.

A Class II warning means it’s more likely to cause “temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences.”

There surely cannot be either insanity or stupidity behind this. Not that the FDA appears capable of recognizing either condition in its ranks or leadership.

Is this a way of reminding us that whoever is President (or King, as in King Jesus), it is the bureaucracy that is in charge?

OF course. the media (Takeout and/or Yahoo, in this case) refuses to see anything except that the nanny state is good for you.

I suppose much of the article could be seen as sarcastic: “as the butter does in fact contain dairy.” Or is it just plain condescending to real people?

Another possibility is this is part of the ever-expanding effort to bankrupt these States and Americans in general. 80,000 pounds at a time when inflation and supply has driven the price of butter at up to $7/pound in many places? Admittedly, $560,000 inflated FRNs are a few tenth-seconds spending and taxing by the FedGov. But some of us still think of it as real wealth. Some places here in the States you can even buy a house for that. A real house. Four walls, a roof, a floor!

Maybe it is a part of USDA’s farm subsidy program? Reduce supplies still more and let demand push prices up even faster? Or part of some diabolical government conspiracy to try and make people more healthy? According to some websites (which we will not share – due to stupidity (theirs, not ours)), butter (with or without the shocking disclosure that it contains milk) already meets the Class II standard of danger.

All of this is pure speculation, and maybe we can chalk up this with a simple observation that government is incompetent and generally fails at most things – except for abusing the people it is supposed to serve.

And this is hardly the only example of stupidity on the part of the FDA or the other agencies in the US Department of Agriculture. Or the whole FedGov bureaucracy. We can look at the track record over the last four… and eight… and more years and shudder at the examples. And how those acts of stupidity, from the Congress and White House on down have harmed people around the world. From dealing with water pollution, wildlife management, and of course inflation and the national debt: the verdict is obvious. Especially dealing with your and my health.

The ridiculous and expensive nature of this FDA demand shows that the last “agent” we can trust for our health and safety of our food is a government agency.
