MSN reports that the Governor of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico is worried about the threat of Venezuelan dictator Maduro to “liberate” Puerto Rico by invading it and driving out the evil, hated Yankees who rule it as a colony.
So what did the Governor do on Tuesday? She wrote the FedGov, of course. In her brief letter, she stated that she trusted the “administration will swiftly respond and make clear to the Maduro regime” that “the United States will protect American lives and sovereignty and will not bow down to the threats of petty, murderous dictators.”
That of course, is an accurate assessment of the Maduro regime. And a reasonable request.
But what is odd is that she did not send the letter to the current President of the United States, dear, beloved, and successful Uncle Joe Biden. Or to his Secretary of State or the current National Security Advisor.
Nope! She sent it to incoming Massa, The Donald – at his Florida address. With copies to The Donald’s nominees for SecState and NSA. Wow!
Of course, since it is a national defense matter, and clearly important to homeland security, it is also interesting to note that she did not furnish copies to the nominees for SecDef and the Secretary of Homeland Security.
What a curious series of events. So we ask the following questions?
First, is she so confident that Maduro and his army and that of the Brazillians (mercenaries or allies?) won’t invade Puerto Rico in the next five days? Admittedly Maduro’s government is a joke to statists. But still…
Second, does she so lack confidence in Uncle Joe and his SecState and NSA that she figures it will be talking to a brick wall to expect anything to be done before noon on 20 January? Dear oh dear, do you suppose she thinks that Uncle Joe – and his puppet-masters – is incompetent? Or that maybe they don’t care whether Venezuela takes over the island?
Third, has she taken action – using authority given even to the Governor of an American commonwealth or territory – to alert the Puerto Rico National Guard (Army and Air Force) of the threat? She obviously takes it seriously enough to go to DC (well, OK, Mar a Largo) so it would be nice if she were responsible enough to at least issue a warning order to her own troops and airmen. Oh, and coordinate with the Active military and naval forces on and near Puerto Rico? And her sister governor in the US Virgin Islands? (Much closer to Venezuela than the PR is, I think.)
Honestly, the Puerto Rico National Guard probably has the necessary forces, equipment, supplies, training, and experience, to deal with an invasion by Venezuela and Brazil (and others). Even if Puerto Rico, like New York, California, Colorado, and a few other States, tries its best to disarm its civilians.
Fourth, has she listened to her military advisors (the Adjutant General and his or her staff) about the threat and what else might be associated with it? For example, where is Cuba in this? We know the geriatric post-Fidel regime in Havana also has long called for the “liberation” of PR. Are they a secret part of an axis of military powers seeking to sever PR from the States? And what is China’s perspective and role? If we are to believe the loud voices from across the nation, China is the States’ worst threat and enemy. Are they going to back Maduro? And how?
Fifth, is it possible that this is her taking advantage of an opportunity to suck up to The Donald? And perhaps she hopes it will persuade him to get behind Statehood for Puerto Rico. After all, a majority of Puerto Ricans voted (nonbinding) for Statehood in the November 2024 election. (As she pointed out in her letter, to illustrate that Puerto Ricans don’t want to be “liberated.”)
Whatever the answer to those (and many other questions), it is sort of weird to have a governor appeal to someone not yet in office. But then, it is also weird that the current SecState (and maybe even the Woke SecDef) haven’t already responded with a strongly-worded message. If not a publically-announced pass in review of a couple of cruisers – or at least frigates and maybe a boomer or two – and a couple of flights of B-1s and F-22s? “Just passing by… smile for the satellites.”
Others have pointed out that a good many people seem to be treating The Donald as though he were already in office. For the mainstream media, that means business as usual: trash everything about him and what he says and his advisors and appointees. And apparently blame him for the fires in Los Angeles and bird flu and the price of eggs.
Is it not a bit strange?
