Europe melting down

Conditions in Europe, particularly in the EU, seem to be deteriorating rapidly.

We have, of course, the impact of the Russo-Ukraine War. And added to that is the American war against Iran, and the resulting severing of oil and gas (and fertilizer) life-streams. We have The Donald screaming out at NATO, jerking the rest of the alliance back and forth, together with the Greenland issue and others. We continue to see massive immigration into multiple EU states from Muslim and Christian Africa and Asia. American tariffs are freaking out European politicians and industrialists (and the tourist industry), especially given the on-off nature.

But not all the problems are external. One of the latest is very internal indeed. That is the growing instability of the central organs of what more and more people (inside and outside of Europe) are calling a tyranny. A very complex one, at that.

There are four main organs: the European Council, the European Parliament, the European Commission (EC), and the Council of the European Union (aka the Council of Ministers) (There are three more institutions, the Court of Justice of the European Union, the European Central Bank, and the Court of Auditors.) Got all that? If you, dear reader, are confused do not worry: so are the Europeans: all 27 nations of them.

Accusations of cronyism, corruption, bizarre practices of all sorts (including sexual), and judicial and extrajudicial actions abound. One news agency very recently published a fake news story stating that the Court of Justice had demanded that Ursula von der Leyen, the President of the EC, must resign because of revelations about the corrupt spending of billions of Euros. But this apparently has not happened. Von der Leyen, a German, is probably the closest thing to the equivalent of the British or Japanese Prime Ministers, or the American or Russian Presidents that the EU has. She is not well-loved. (But of course the same thing can be said of Putin, Trump, Starmer, or Takaichi.)

Since several of the members of the EU are themselves federal states, which in turn have the equivalent of American counties and municipalities, the EU is just another layer of government. In other words, another set of parasites and micro-managers and all the rest of the hangers-on and thugs in suits or uniforms.

And of course, by American and formerly British standards, they are all a bunch of Tranzis: Transnational “Progressives” who are regressive and little different in goals and attitude from Egyptian Pharaohs, Roman Princips (“First Citizen,” Emperors), or Russian Czars or … you get the picture.

Woke? Of course. Advocates of reverse racism, socialism, and everything else lovers of liberty associate with big government? Again, obviously.

Ursula von der Leyen and the rest of her kind were raised, trained, and rewarded for hating almost anything that can be branded “American.” Like many others, she and her minions in the various parts of the EU’s organs hate 80+ years of the Bretton Woods Agreement and the 50+ years of the Petro-dollar. Even though Germany (and to a lesser degree Belgium, the Netherlands, and elsewhere) has grown rich hosting literally generations of American troops on their soil and the nuclear umbrella DC extended over them to protect against Soviet and Russian “aggression.”

And as some of us believe, they also regret that, corrupt as DC and the Fifty States’ governments are, they still are seen as less corrupt than European equivalents. And of course, the existence of the US allowed the Brits to escape (at least temporarily) from the tyranny exercised over the remaining 27 nations.

Supposedly, Europe is united to prevent war. At least internally. But they forget that the worst wars are those that are internal, “civil” wars: brutal, bloody, no real front lines, no quarter: we saw it in the Macedonian conflicts after Alexander’s death, in Rome time and time again, in Judea. In England and Britain multiple times, in the Germanies, in France, in Russia.

The causes are almost always the same: greed, hatred, and whipping up of emotions over economic and social and political matters. We’ll talk more about that in the next commentary about Europe melting down.
