Government-run, tax-funded schools are the “standard” – even today, most people who home-school their children, or even who use private schools (including parochial ones) are looked on as being abnormal.
While there are many problems with the GRTF schools, here is one critical challenge – which usually is not overcome.
Auron MacIntyre recently shared his experiences as a schoolteacher under less than ideal conditions. Since everyone is taught to be a bean counter and be obsessed with “balancing,” every standard of decency and excellence has to be sacrificed.
Thus Auron:
I taught at a majority minority school where suspending students was functionally banned.
The logic was that the school district suspended too many minority students, and since almost all of our students were “minorities” any suspensions from our school would make the overall district numbers look very bad.
The result was a student body who knew there were no penalties for their behavior. One principal was sent to the hospital after being knocked out trying to break up a fight in the cafeteria. A teacher was placed in the mail room because he tried to stop a fight in his classroom, and the parent of one of the students accused him of racism.
After multiple prison-riot style fights broke out, with dozens of students beating each other, footage finally made it to local news stations and the district panicked.
We were once again allowed to suspend students and the violence disappeared.
The discipline got so much better that we were actually able to teach in classrooms again — no more students telling teachers to go f*** themselves or storming out of the class when they were told to do their work.
Students could actually learn again, grades went up, everything improved.
But we were driving up the district’s number, too many minority students were being suspended, and they ended the solution that had been radically successful.
The school went back to being a disaster, and I escaped to a better school where discipline was almost never an issue.
No bonus points for guessing what the shift in demographics looked like.
This is of particular interest given the release (on 6 October 2026) of bodycam footage by a policeman responding to a horrific situation in an elementary school in 2023:
It is more than just demographics and policies, however. In this particular case, it appears that most of those involved were “victims of society” in that they were denizens of inner-city ghetto areas, and the products of the twisted and perverted society that developed starting with the Great Society programs of the regressive, hate-filled Lyndon Baines Johnson back in the mid-1960s. A society in which black and other “disadvantaged” and “poverty-stricken” families were made even more disfunctional by destroying the basic family unit (parents (emphasis plural! Male and female even!)) and also breaking the ties between generations. It is not just the foul-mouthed little 6-year-old would-be killer that is a victim of government policies and a refusal to correct (discipline) juveniles. It appears that his parents, possibly his grandparents, and the school administrator now on trial for a variety of crimes, all are also the products of government projects and actions.
(The shooter is now apparently in the care of a great-grandmother: this implies that grandparents, like his felon mother, are unable to be trusted with caring for, and raising, a young child. Even with the shorter and shorter length of generations in the American urban underclass, it is likely that a great-grandmother was probably raised before the advent of LBJ’s Great Society.
Of course, the decay of government-run, tax/theft-funded schools, nor the related decay of American society, did not start with the Great Society, and certainly did not end when Tricky Dick replaced LBJ. It was and is a multi-generational process.
In many ways, we submit it is far worse than what Germany went through with the National Socialists. Hitler’s regime lasted only a dozen years. Although the impact on the children raised under Naziism was severe, it was in essence just two generations. Today, in the States, we are seeing the result of 150+ years of indoctrination in government-run, tax-funded schools.
In the last half-century, that German-inspired regimen has been made worse by various court decisions and their implementation. The total removal of moral education, the mainstreaming of the mentally ill and mentally deficient, the dumbing down of the actual teaching, all have grown to crisis-levels.
