Good morning. As always, lots of stupid actions by lots of stupid people, and today there is a bumper crop of them.
Stupid city slickers? In a New York “gun-free” restaurant, the staff got held up by a three-man team armed with a machete. As Mama Liberty reminded me, naked steel IS a very frightening object to be threatened with, but the fact is, if the restaurant had any indication of armed staff or patrons, these idiots would not have used a machete. Of course, the restaurant is going to solve the problem by putting up more security cameras. That way, (assuming the attackers are not masked, of course), the cops can identify the thugs who butcher the staff and/or patrons in the next armed robbery. Seriously, how do these people even know how to breed?
Mama’s Note: Unfortunately, breeding does not require any intelligence or human qualities at all. Most of the more successful breeders in the world don’t even have much of a brain of any kind.
Same comment applies to the idiot on the Today Show who had a special segment about how to protect your family from home invasions, by making sure that you have your car keys and a can of wasp spray available in your bedroom for those nighttime raids by gunmen. The car keys? No, not as a substitute for brass knuckles, but because most recent-model-year cars have built-in alarm systems that sound the horn and flash the lights when you push the right button on the key or the fob. Assuming you HAVE a recent-model car, or have a car, or have your car parked in front of your house, or that you have neighbors and/or local cops who will be able to read your mind at 0300…
Mama’s Note: Insane, from every angle. As a certified self defense instructor, these suggestions are a big time FAIL for so many reasons I won’t go into it here. Just a hint, for now… when was the last time you paid any attention whatsoever to the car “alarms” that woke you up in the middle of the night? Most people simply curse the hapless owner of the alarm and go back to sleep as soon as it shuts off.
My advice to people everywhere? Buy a gun and learn how to use it. And then learn as much as you can about all the other things that go along with it – things that might very well result in never having to shoot anyone.
Islamic wars: Stupidity incarnate. More blood, more destruction, more waste. In Afghanistan, four occupation troops (1 US) were killed; the US soldier by a trainee who turned on them, suicide bombers destroyed 26 fuel tankers. For once, the attackers killed no civilians. In Mesopotamia, US airstrikes hit the Caliphate forces SW of Baghdad. No casualty reports. Strangely, US planes are using the air base in Qatar to attack THIS brand of Islamism. But in Libya, unknown aircraft struck near Tripoli killing one and wounding five. It is likely Egyptian or UAR warplanes. They, with the Saudis, are supporting the “government” while Turkey, Qatar, and others are supporting Islamist rebels.
In the Central African Republic [sic], UN troops are trying to “keep the peace” as Muslims fight with everyone else in the country. Elsewhere in Africa, fighting in Nigeria between Muslims and everyone else has an odd footnote: 12 Nigeria soldiers are to be executed for mutiny. Meanwhile, Zero Hedge says that the Caliphate’s next target is, get this, the Suez Canal. Never mind that the Caliphate is landlocked, that the only way overland to Suez is through Jordan (whose existence is pretty much guaranteed by Israel), Saudi Arabia (and a very sensitive part of Arabia at that), Israel itself, and the only Arab army that really has been a match for the Israelis in the past half-century. Maybe the Caliph is that stupid: Zero Hedge certainly seems to be.
Non-Islamic wars: NATO troops are having “exercises” in western Ukraine, while fighting continues between the Ukraine government and the breakaway Donetsk Peoples Republic. Remember World War Two? A 93-year-old German man has been charged as an accessory to 300,000 counts of murder for being a guard at Auschwitz for two months in 1944. Hmmm. Will we see such trials 70 years from now for young people working for DHS and other agencies?
Home front: Police tyranny: In Albuquerque, NM, an NRA-sponsored police shooting contest is being protested because of the Albuquerque Police Department’s multiple killings (32) over the past several years.
Space: “NASA’s effort to identify potentially dangerous space rocks has taken a hit.” The agency’s IG blasted NASA’s Near Earth Objects program, which is meant to hunt and catalog comets, asteroids and relatively large fragments of these objects that pass within 28 million miles of Earth. The supposed purpose is to protect the planet against their potential dangers. It appears, that like MOST NASA programs, it is intended to provide job security and funding by promoting fear and terror (like, I admit, MOST government programs in general). NASA also selected Boeing and SpaceX to rent “private” earth-to-orbit and return spacecraft to supply the ISS and other US manned operations in space (WHAT other manned operations in space?) starting in 2017. I notice (without surprise) that Boeing got 50% more than SpaceX even though the Dragon is a proven vessel. Now NASA doesn’t have to hitch rides with Russians flying 1970s vintage Soyuz disposable spacecraft.
Stay tuned: more stupidity ahead!
