When in doubt, follow the money. And the power. Don’t know who said that first, but it is generally a wise piece of advice when dealing with politics and government and crime in general. Let us look at a few examples.
Once more, Americans are being stolen from in perhaps the biggest fraud scheme in history. People are asking, How do 2015 ObummerCare premiums compare to 2014? The White House contended that the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ObummerCare, the Abominable Act) would send health insurance costs down, but premiums initially increased up to 50 percent for some insurance plans last year…
And guess what? They are going up AGAIN, while services are cut and deductibles and co-pays raised across the board. One woman with a 22,000 per year salary has to pay $5,000 out of pocket before her insurance pays one red cents. A family has two children of age and off their policy, and sees their rates go UP from $900 a month to $1100 a month, for just the husband and wife. And yet, we pay and pay and pay, and most of us say NOTHING. It isn’t just Medicaid or Medicare or ObummerCare, of course.
In 2013, the Federal Government Spent $3.1 Trillion in the States, up from $2.5 trillion in 2004. And we KNOW it climbed still more in FY 2014 and is doing the same thing now in FY 2015. More theft, MORE spending, MORE waste, MORE control. Ain’t it grand? The States are little more than appendages of the FedGov in virtuallly every endeavor, and each increase makes them more and more beholden to the goons in DC.
One example of the spending is the 250+ million dollars going to equip local cops (50,000 of them) with body cameras, supposedly to prevent “new” Fergusons. But the money isn’t the only thing, of course. We also have weapons and related equipment, STILL moving from the Pentagon to various local police (occupation force) agencies. That isn’t going to stop, apparently. All this, I suppose, is intended to make sure that there is blood – even more blood – in the streets, no matter what happens. One website has created a tool that will allow you to quickly check the 1033 transfers to your local police or game warden. Visit their website if you want to find out.
And of course, the body cameras and other surveillance cameras didn’t PREVENT the chokehold death in NYC or the murder of an Ohio 12-year-old with a bb-gun: just recorded them for (maybe) future action on behalf of the victim’s family or the ambulance-chasing shysters or the opportunists in the White House and the activists for whatever cause.
Speaking of money, what does national defense have to do with national parks? Well, the 1648-page National Defense Authorization Act bill (NDAA) has provisions creating SIX new national parks, providing for authority for the National Park Service and other Interior and Agriculture Department agencies to ban hunting, fishing, and trapping in various wilderness areas, and more, all in the name of National Defense. Of course, this sort of blatant action by legislators gone wild (LGW) is not new when it comes to NDAA, which has been used to steal freedoms from Americans more than once, and throw away billions of dollars – and not just for weapons, vehicles, and deployments to distant lands where there is no real US interest.
A column appeared in the WaPo recently, and it is actually a shock to find it there: What would happen if the FedGov shut down and didn’t EVER reopen?
Mama’s Note: Very interesting indeed. Of course, the central theme is that government has legitimate authority to do all those things. The sad part is that he’s exactly right. People WANT government to do those things, and believes in that “authority,” just usually want it done at “someone else’s” expense. Until that changes, we’re pretty much stuck with it.
Nathan: She is right: just trading an interlocking set of elected and appointed “massas” in DC, Fifty State capitols, and hundreds of thousands of local jurisdictions for slightly less-elaborate set of state and local official “massas” is NOT going to get rid of government. Sure, in some jurisdictions there might be a few government powers and perks eliminated, but for the most part, people will just expect Pierre or Cheyenne or Austin to provide what they did PLUS whatever the FedGov thugs did. But because the State governments are so dependent on FedGov money (stolen from taxpayers), they are not likely to do anything but try to put Humpty Dumpty back together again.
