Libertarian Commentary #16-17C By Nathan Barton
A correspondent recently sent me this picture, together with the usual glorification of “our solders” as being heroes making great sacrifices for “our freedom” and “for America.” I’ll spare you the appeals to emotion and patriotism and pride.
But the article DID make an important point: “We see lots of pictures of wounded male veterans, but women vets get wounded and maimed too.”
Like the author of the e-mail, I am glad that these women can still smile, still enjoy life, and I ask God’s blessing upon them as I do upon all people.
But…
I am deeply saddened by this photo. You know that the reason that these women’s pictures do not show up is because of the horror that this generates in many people’s hearts. We really DON’T see that much of male wounded war veterans missing limbs and more, as the e-mail claimed. Because, again, that makes people face the price of combat “too much.” With women, it is even more to be avoided. There is a huge difference between death and wounding when it is actually defending your home, your people, your land, against an attack versus in an occupation force, however the reasoning goes.
But there is more. The real question that we must ask is what KIND of sick society puts its women into harm’s way like this? What kind of sick leadership thinks that this is GOOD? And what kind of evil “leadership” tells these women and their male comrades that it is necessary to go out be attacked like this and NOT address the real enemies (like the Saudis) even while Congress dictates/allows the White House to dictate that we occupy virtually every land on earth to supposedly protect our freedom?
Part of the answer to the above questions is that it is the same sick society that sees the female progenitor (you can’t call them “mothers”) murder their own child inside their own body and claim that is “good,” and that allows millions of people to die because mosquitoes have a right not to be killed by DDT.
These women, and their male comrades, were NOT wounded and maimed in defense of American freedom or liberty or the Constitution, much less their homes and families, and they were sadly mistaken and lied to, if they thought that was why they were in harm’s way.
They were sent there, to the Sandbox or the Stan, because the elites in DC (and no doubt in London and New York) want more and more control over more and more of the world. And because the continuing wars are an excuse to take away more and more liberty and freedom from the people of the Fifty States and other parts of the West. The fact is, fighting in these places is not necessary to protect Americans against the evils of terrorism and terrorists, nor to protect our freedom. Like the rest of us, they were lied to, and like most of the rest of us, they believed the lies. And paid for it.
They had all the best intentions in volunteering and going over to fight, which makes them heroes in that way, as well as people who deserve our pity and understanding and help. But more, they deserve our action trying to keep this from happening to another generation, or even their younger brothers and sisters.
Because the elites are not satisfied with these few: they want to “allow” and then to “encourage” (and ultimately, to require?) women to become more and more participants in the horrors of close combat, of IEDs and missiles and mortars, of cold steel and more. It isn’t just Liberals or Democrats: you can see the same thing in NeoCons and Republicans. It is part of the coarsening of society – indeed of the death of this sick society. It is part and parcel with abortion and “same-sex marriage” and hook-up culture and the militarization of the police. It is a rejection of the ideals and standards that once supported Western Civilization.
The price these women paid will be paid over and over again in coming years. Unless we change. Enough is enough.
I see these pictures and I have nothing good to say. SORRY: These people, male & female, went into the military on their own, they were not pushed and forced. There is an old saying “You knew the job was dangerous when you took it”,

I have an even better idea. 🙂 Why send people – or go – to invade and occupy someone else’s property? Invade, kill people and destroy what they have built? No, they were not actually “forced” this time around, though the “draft” looms ominously again. These people were conned, indoctrinated into believing that by participating in this invasion, destruction and murder they were “serving” their country. Soldiers have been manipulated and lied to for all of history. So, the question is just what they thought they were volunteering for, and why. Some have an idea, but I suspect most don’t… they are blackmailed emotionally and tempted by such things as “free” college. They are young… and don’t yet understand a lot of things.
