And so I come to a last story and another whole slew of badges of honor. Again from The Blaze, we see that several Christian organizations well known for their defense of traditional marriage have been labeled “hate groups” by GuideStar, one of the United States’ leading charity research groups. This outfit, which claims to be a “neutral” database containing information on more than two million charities, has adopted the progressive Southern Poverty Law Center’s nonprofit designations. The charity site pointed to the “hateful rhetoric” during this “highly politicized moment” in American history as its reason for making the decision, according to the AP. In other words, GuideStar and SPLC are attacking these groups for doing exactly what the preacher in Houston is doing – and the eight states California hates – standing up for truth, justice, and what used to be “the American way.”
I do NOT see eye-to-eye with any of these “Christian organizations” such as the Family Research Council, Alliance Defending Freedom, Liberty Counsel, and the American Family Association. Still, the page for each of these on GuideStar now features a banner warning they were “flagged as a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center.” Indeed, a badge of honor for a religious organization in 2017.
(Please understand – a disclaimer here – I do not believe in “traditional” marriage, but in the accepted definition (legal and social, and in the dictionary for centuries) that marriage is between a man and a women: not two men, two women, a man and two+ women, a woman and two+ men, or any number of dogs, cats, horses, motorcycles, etc. And that calling a tail a leg does not give a dog five legs. These religious groups have largely defeated themselves by accept “serial monogamy” (divorce for any reason), government licensing of marriage, and so much more. But that does not excuse lies about them, and branding them as hate groups is nothing but a lie.)
Of course, in the 21st Century, in the Fifty States, there is no possibility of a libel or slander suit against this evil conspiracy to defame people in any of these cases.
So what can these newly-christened haters (and us) do? Fight back? Why bother? Indeed, to fight back in court or with vehement words just validates the lies as having some basis in fact. Take action, including violence? Perverted as the Gospel of Christ has been by these organizations and those people in Houston has been in so many ways, why should they expect success by perverting it more?
Indeed, the best way to fight this may be to NOT fight it directly. As I already pointed out, the best way to nullify the curriculum is to get the children OUT. Abandon the public schools. The best way to counter the claim of hate groups and crimes is to show love. NOT “accepting love” that tolerates and affirms the evils of their life style and what they are promoting in society. Rather, love that tells them that their lives (in this world and eternity) depend on them abandoning their life style and rejecting the evils that they adhere to. ALL the evils: the progressivism, the government, the ‘might makes right’ concept, the attempt to force compliance, and all the rest. And denying that their evil has any legitimate, moral control over those who reject these things; especially government and all the things that government promotes. Of course, this will require repentance on the part of these religious groups and leaders. They must repent of attempting to use the illegitimate powers of government to enforce their own moral code (no matter how right it might be) against others. They must repent of playing footsie with government, which led directly to the present situation. At the same time, those opposed to so-called homosexual marriage and the insertion of affirmation of LGBTQ in schools, must continue to oppose it – and this means refuse to accept these things. Being labeled as haters is just one of many things that they can expect to suffer (and far from the worst). But accepting that suffering – accepting the consequences of rejecting evil and force – is necessary to defeat this. A defeat which physical force – even in self-defense except in the most specific of cases – will NOT accomplish. A defeat which tactics of bitterness and verbal attack will not inflict on those people such as the activists and the progressives.
The situation is going to get worse before it gets better.
Footnote: in 2004, a correspondent, Kyle Butt, predicted this kind of thing. He wrote:
Will the New Testament Christians in our nation sit by idly while laws are passed that protect the sin of homosexuality from public condemnation? The great statesman Edmund Burke well said, “All that is required for evil to prevail is for good men to do nothing.” It is high time that we “preach from the housetops” God’s saving message of Christ, and His condemnation of sins such as homosexuality. Today we are free to do that; if we do not seize the day, tomorrow we might be convicted of a “hate crime” for telling a lost world what God requires of them.
Mama’s Note: In order to have freedom, each individual and group must accept the equal freedom of others, even if that means those others do and say things they believe are wrong or “sinful.”
Proclaiming one’s beliefs to the world does not violate that freedom, though it usually seems pointless to me. I don’t care what others believe or do, as long as they do not initiate force – either to promote or fight the beliefs and actions of others. If they use their freedom to impose on others, THEN we have a problem.
The power of the government and the evil of government “school” IS such an initiation of force, of course, and self defense is called for in many situations. The school thing is fairly simple to counteract, when parents take full responsibility for the education of their children. The legal bombs of lawsuits and irrational punishment of business and organizations is far more difficult to counter, but there are a number of ways to do so if people understand the danger and work hard at it.
In the end, I suspect, the entire house of cards will collapse and those who are now violating the non-aggression principle will discover that their intended victims will not put up with the viscous use of force forever.
