Is “Western Civilization” falling apart? Some recent stories seem to make a very strong argument for that.
Google and Facebook have been in the news for years (at least in alternative media) because of their complete lack of concern for the privacy and the free speech rights of their users. Yet, last week, The Hill reported that these firms (and others) asked the Supreme Court to rule that their users’ data should be protected from warrantless search and seizure by the government. The companies filed a brief in the case Carpenter v. United States, which the court has taken up to decide whether certain cellphone data is protected under the Fourth Amendment. The brief states ‘Whether email, cloud computing, location-based tracking, or any other digital functionality is at issue, users consider many types of collected electronic data to be private — particularly given the personal details that information can reveal — regardless of whether transmission to a third party has occurred behind the scenes in the creation or processing of that data.’
Gee, so apparently it is okay for the companies to force users to reveal personal details, to mine their users’ data for anything they like, but “heaven forbid” that the government do that? And these companies are willing to risk government regulators’ wrath to make this point? Something smells, for certain.
Meanwhile, in the wake of the Charlottesville ruckus and all the panic over Alt-right rallies, Confederate statues, and the mass hysteria related to all this, we see that the rot is even more widespread than people feared. The BBC reported that the memorial to President Abraham Lincoln in DC has been vandalized. BBC says “The vandals appear to [sic] have used red spray paint to write ‘[expletive] law’ early on Tuesday morning, the National Park Service said in a statement. Crews are removing it with a ‘gel-type architectural paint stripper that is safe for use on historic stone.’ … Other ‘undecipherable graffiti’ was found written in silver paint on a nearby sign directing tourists to the Smithsonian Institution…”
Oh, dear, the situation is getting bad. This is obviously the work of the evil Alt-right conspiracy (more on that later) seeking to demean and denigrate (pun intended) that most-worshipped demigod of the FedGov/American civic (or not so civic) religion. Clearly, more effort must be expended to track down and punish these perps, who dare to desecrate and define this hallowed edifice.
(Of course, OTHER leftists and AntiFa groups in the overall Tranzi movement point out that Lincoln was just another statist criminal, and that we must remove him (along with the others) from Mount Rushmore, because of what he did to the Dakota in Minnesota in 1862.
Mama’s Note: I’m all for removing ALL of the images of all government criminals be removed from every monument and wide spot in the road that calls itself a town or city. Not going to happen, of course, but restoring Mt. Rushmore to some reasonable natural state would be a wonderful start.
As it turns out, a few jurisdictions are actually tracking down or at least arresting people engaged in vandalism and criminal activity (for that is indeed what damaging and destroying property – public or private – is). Fox News reported that Takiya Thompson, 22, a college student, was arrested Tuesday for toppling a nearly century-old statue of a Confederate soldier Monday in North Carolina in front of a cheering crowd. AP and Fox say that a diverse crowd of dozens cheered as the statue of a soldier holding a rifle fell to the ground in front of a local government office in Durham County. Seconds after the monument fell, protesters began kicking the crumpled bronze monument. ‘I’m tired of white supremacy keeping its foot on my neck and the necks of people who look like me,’ Thompson said. ‘That statue glorifies the conditions that oppressed people live in, and it had to go.’ She is a member of Workers World Party (a Communist splinter group) and a student at historically black North Carolina Central University. Shockingly, the cops have denied her immunity for her “free speech” performance art, and she faces vandalism misdemeanor and felony charges, including for property damage and participation in a riot, according to the Durham County Sheriff’s Office. Since then, the cops have identified and arrested more of the mob.
The authorities are being condemned by a whole range of activists and politicians for this dastardly deed (arresting her, not her crimes), and I am sure it is only a matter of time before all the charges against all the members of the mob are dropped. To me, this sounds very much like the sort of “Street Senate” actions so common in later days of the Roman Empire, both in Rome and in Constantinople.
I expect this next action to also generate a whole lot of anger – and probably more mob action. Even though Gettysburg is a relatively small town, I’m sure the AntiFa thugs and their allies will be able to rouse the mob and pay for buses to transport them to this sacred ground. (It may be that they wait until next July due to the 155th anniversary of the battle.)
USA Today tells us that the National Park Service has announced that “Confederate monuments here to stay.’ I am reminded of Bush the Elder’s famous “watch my lips, no new taxes” pledge. USA Today published: “Despite national discourse on the appropriateness of Confederate monuments, the ones in Gettysburg are not going anywhere, according to park officials. … Debates like the one in Charlottesville are not expected to come to the Gettysburg battlefield.”
Sure it won’t. If there are calls to take down the Washington Monument and remove the Jefferson Memorial, as well as demolish some or all of the faces on Mount Rushmore, we can be sure that Gettysburg (and every other battlefield of the War Between the States) is going to be targeted. It may not be after this particular incident (in Charlottesville) but another incident, sooner or later, will be engineered and used as an excuse.
Back to my thoughts as far as Western Civilization, we don’t need to look just at the Islamization of Europe, or the rapid surrender of British and European governments to their own brand of savages. Consider this unthinkable situation: According to WCYB 5 News, Australia’s branch of Her Majesty’s government has accused New Zealand’s own royalists of “conspiring” against it. New Zealand’s opposition Labour Party is part of a ‘conspiracy’ to bring down the Australian government — at least according to Australia’s governing Liberal National coalition. The diplomatic clash caps off a bizarre 48 hours in Canberra after Australia’s deputy prime minister Barnaby Joyce was discovered to be a New Zealand citizen (a sleeper agent?) through his father. Citizens of foreign countries are not allowed to sit in the Australian Parliament …. Speaking to a meeting of all government politicians on Tuesday morning, Australian prime minister Malcolm Turnbull accused Australia’s opposition Labor Party of ‘conspiring’ with their New Zealand counterparts. ‘We have learned this morning the Australian Labor Party has been conspiring with the NZ Labour Party to undermine the position of the deputy prime minister and the government of Australia,’ he said.
Seems to me that the LN politicos are not properly understanding the importance of their joint allegiance to the British Crown, and the long, long close relationship between the two Commonwealths. (It is also a bit weird, since both New Zealanders and Australians are both considered automatic citizens (subject) in the UK itself, if they move there.) Will we see Aussie troops and ships withdrawn from the Middle East to launch strikes against Wellington?
Seems that civilization is indeed crumbling.
