Commentary #1400 – loss and vision

This is the fourteen-hundredth commentary published on The Price of Liberty, courtesy and the dedication and work of Susan Callaway, Mama Liberty.

It has only been a few weeks since we lost her after her tough fight with cancer.  There is a big hole in our hearts, our thoughts, our daily activities.  I even find myself avoiding the drive through Newcastle, knowing she’s not there anymore.

But her ideas, her vision, are still here with us, her legacy to us.  Self-control, integrity, non-aggression.  Her love for liberty and her determination to hold to a high standard for herself and others is not gone.

Over the next few months, I plan to republish some of her writings, both ones which are timeless and those which, though related to events in the past, are still relevant to what is going on in the world today.

Any readers who have one or more commentaries or articles which they think should be showcased are asked to contact me.

At the same time, I’m looking for more people to both contribute and to help me sharpen my own commentaries.  As I’ve mentioned to some who have posted, I’m not able to spend as much time on TPOL and correspondence as Lady Susan did, due to work and family, especially the time consumed in travel. I operate over seven states, and when I don’t have someone to drive with me, I have never been able to get the hang of either typing on a keyboard while driving, or dictating commentary while driving.

The Price of Liberty should continue to live up to Mama Liberty’s standards, and I ask you help in doing so.  Especially your ideas and criticisms.

More than ever, I see the vision of a land and world of liberty for my children, my grandchildren, and YOUR children, grandchildren, and beyond, to be important.  Important here on this planet and in Heaven, now and forever. Our liberty, and the free will that is necessary, are God’s great gift, and second only to His gift of life in Him. (I’ll go no farther, to stay out of “religion.”)

All we can do, in a platform like this, is to keep telling ourselves and each other (a) what liberty is – what self-government, personal responsibility, and everything related to them; and (b) what the absence of liberty is: the actions of the controllers, whatever we call them.  A clear understanding of what tyranny, the state, totalitarianism, democracy, republics, and all the other tools that controllers use to control is very important.

A forum like The Price of Liberty helps us by challenging and provoking us to better understanding and better efforts to live our lives in freedom.  In biblical terms, to exhort, rebuke, encourage, console, and enlighten us.

Help me remember Mama Liberty by carrying on her dream.

Nathan, thank you for carrying on in MamaLiberty’s absence. I do not know how I can help, other than to invite you to read her many thousands of postings at The Mental Militia forums. She ran that place for many years, and has more posts there than any other member. She was an Administrator, and a very active one. You are welcome to draw from any of her postings there.

No matter what happens to, Mama Liberty, your work and others work will never be forgotten. Never met her, wish I had, I miss her.
