Uncle Joe lies again: the ghost gun episode

As we here in the States (and around the world) enjoy yet another episode of the second-season of that great “reality show” featuring dear old handsy Uncle Joe, think about this!

A “ghost gun” – Really?

A few days back, the DC establishment, with “suitable” grandiose pronouncements, announced yet another set of regulations in their war on self-defense (guns). In the announcement of these regulations, VP Kammie said that “ghost guns pose an especially grave threat to the safety of our communities.” She was parroting the statement her boss, Uncle Joe, made that “[ghost] guns are weapons of choice for many criminals.” Both those claims are completely and demonstrably bogus. Yet another example of elected officials lying to everyone. (Including, no doubt, themselves. They KNOW better.)

A White House False-Fact Sheet tells us, “Last year alone, there were approximately 20,000 suspected ghost guns reported to ATF as having been recovered by law enforcement in criminal investigations – a ten-fold increase from 2016.[1] Because ghost guns lack the serial numbers marked on other firearms, law enforcement has an exceedingly difficult time tracing a ghost gun found at a crime scene back to an individual purchaser.” Note the give-away word “suspected,” We are finding more and more that the claim of a “ghost gun” is made any time someone (i.e. jack-booted thugs) sees there is a 3D-printer anywhere near the gun or whomever owned the gun.

The truth?  According to the Department of Justice, privately made firearms were found at 692 homicide or attempted homicide crime scenes over a six-year period. What does that mean? At worst, out of more than 16,000 yearly murders, homemade guns are used in around 115 homicides (or attempted ones) per year. Wow! That is a lot less than the number of killings using commonly available items, such as knives (1,476), hammers or blunt objects (397), or fists and feet (600).

A correspondent shared that picture up at top with me: “This is my ghost gun.” I recognize this sort of thing. My father had one, my wife’s father had one – very similar.  And I’ve had one since I was about sixteen or so.

He wrote: [I shoot] rattlers with it or just do back yard plinking if need be. It’s even been improved with a neon front sight not added by any factory.

“It was made by hand in the mid-19th century by some guy who had bought a commercially made percussion action and brass cap and patch box and made the rest of it by hand. Naturally, he didn’t put a serial number on it as this would have served no useful purpose, as modern serial numbers do not.”

He went on to write:

“It’s usually impossible to solve a crime by running a serial number. The best you might do is to find the original buyer, almost never the actual criminal. If you commit a crime with a gun traceable to you by serial number, the last thing you want to do is leave it at the scene.

“Americans, and those of other nations, have done this for centuries. If you didn’t make your own gun, the local blacksmith could cobble one together for you. Mass production of firearms pretty much began with Eli Whitney, who invented interchangeable parts.”

So tell me, exactly WHAT is this newest front in the War on Guns about? It is NOT based on ANY real danger represented by them. Rather, it is just another effort by politicians to demonize guns. Both among their followers and the stupid or ignorant (or both) in the nation.

As the numbers listed above show, criminals do not use these so-called “ghost guns” much at all. In fact, criminals are far more likely, I suspect, to use FAKE guns – replicas. Or just get someone to pry the orange cap off a toy, or carve their own gun. Among other things remember that most criminals are lazy, uneducated, and lacking mechanical skills. And it is a lot easier to just steal a commercially-manufactured gun than to browbeat someone who IS skilled enough into making them one.

Check with your local Sheriff or cop shop. As about the last time they heard of a criminal committing a crime with his own home-made gun. Or your local TV or newspaper folks. You KNOW if something like that had happened, they’d have it as front-page and “urgent news break” announcements. Locally, of course – you can be sure that national mainstream media is backing the bureau/klepto/hoplophobe politicians and “civil servants.”

I will echo my friend: “Don’t be taken in by the hype.”

Indeed. Mz. Kammie’s and Uncle Joe’s claims, with all the power of the FedGov bullhorn behind them, is just another example of lies used as part of a PSYOP. One against the natural and recognized enemy of the FedGov and most everyone in it: you and me and other people.
