Just as “war is the health of the state” so fear facilitates politicians and governments, and drives politics.
That has been the case for millennia, but this year we can really see and feel the impact. This is not a Democratic or a Republican tactic: this is a fundamental strategy for ALL politicians of all political persuasions. (Including Libertarians.)
Why?
Because it produces results. First of all, campaign cash. And publicity. And then volunteers. And finally, votes. So the end result is power. We can quote Ben Franklin until we are blue in the face. (Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.) But fearful people – rationally or not – will all too often give up their liberty. And when the fears are overblown and without a rational basis? Even more people are willing to give up more liberty.
A correspondent shared this with me recently:
According to WorldNetDaily, an explosive report has confirmed that Pres. Trump authorized 10,000 troops to be at the Capitol Building in Washington, D.C. on January 6, 2021. He reportedly thought it possible the crowd he expected, while Congress voted to adopt Electoral College results, might get rowdy. Learning this flies in the face of Democrats who still falsely claim Trump was hoping for an insurrection to overthrow the government. Now think: If that really was his plan, why would he ask for 10,000 troops to oppose him? The Gateway Pundit published a “groundbreaking report from Steve Baker” showing that previously concealed but now newly-surfaced transcripts revealed that Gen. Mark Milley, chair, Joint Chiefs of Staff, confirmed that Pres. Trump “expressed concern about the potential for unrest and proactively ordered the necessary precautions.” (On March 1, 2024, Steve Baker of Blaze Media was arrested on four misdemeanor charges by the FBI in Dallas, Texas for REPORTING on the January 6 rally. He was released later that day.) Evidence has proven that three days before January 6, Milley documented that Pres. Trump said, “Hey, look at this. There’s going to be a large amount of protesters here on the 6th. Make sure that you have sufficient National Guard or Soldiers to make sure it’s a safe event.” Trump repeated, “I don’t care if you use Guard or Soldiers, active duty Soldiers, do whatever you have to do. Just make sure it’s safe.”
Quite a few questions, eh? We can answer those when we remember the driving force of fear.
The Deep State, the usual politicians, and both the Democrat and Republican hierarchy fear The Donald. He is not one of them. This is not to endorse him, but simply to point out the truth. The Harris-Walz campaign, even more than Uncle Joe, are promoting irrational fears of The Donald. In this they are joined by hundreds (if not thousands) of Republican Never-Trumpers.
But never fear: the GOP and the Trump-Vance campaign are doing the same thing: making people fearful of a fourth Obummer administration. For the same reasons: votes and power.
Whom do we believe? Perhaps, both of them. Electing a new (or old) Massa-in-Chief is not going to restore liberty or let the economy recover. More serious, stronger action is needed: taking away the power of the government – of the elected and especially the unelected officials.
Otherwise, and as we here at TPOL full expect, in a month we will again demonstrate our collective insanity by doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.

Irrational fears dominate American politics
