Chavez’s name is defamed – holiday toast. Who else?

Courtesy of the Rapid City Post (a new online daily and hardcopy weekly), we see this:

California lawmakers want to rename César Chavez Day following sexual abuse allegations

California’s legislative leaders say they want to rename César Chavez Day following stunning abuse allegations against the revered labor leader. Assembly Speaker Robert Rivas and Senate President pro Tempore Monique Limón announced their proposal on Thursday. Political leaders in states and cities are considering similar moves following the allegations accusing Chavez of sexually abusing girls and the co-founder of the United Farm Workers of America union. There have been calls to alter memorials honoring the man who, in the 1960s, helped secure better wages and working conditions for farmworkers and has been long revered by many Democratic leaders in the U.S., including Washington Gov. Bob Ferguson’s office says he won’t issue a proclamation honoring César Chavez Day this year. (Full story)

Colorado also followed suit: the blue states are turning red (with embarrassment).

My oh my. Many readers may not recognize his name from the 1960s and 1970s. A strong socialist, he was part of a turbulent era. He was also supremely popular among many groups.

Today? Just one more hero of the Left to be made a non-person: a technique the modern Woke Tranzis (Regressives) copied from various Communist parties. (Read some classic Cold War books, such as those by Herb Philbrick (I Led Three Lives).)

We see that on both sides of the Atlantic. Consider J.K. Rowling, author of the Harry Potter books. A strong liberal or Progressive, yet cancelled because she is “transphobic.” This entire concept of “cancel culture” has been strongly associated with that political faction. For example, heaven forbid if the person portrayed by a memorial statue (or painting, or building) wore a grey uniform! The Regressives eat their own. Another example is the renaming of certain institutions and buildings named for President Woodrow Wilson.

But conservatives, including both never-Trumpers and MAGA types, are now practicing this sort of wickedness also. Consider the treatment of Tucker Carlson. Is cancel culture an infectious mental disorder? We’ve even seen libertarians trying to do this. There are certain libertarians and Libertarians, living and dead, who have been cancelled. Or have barely escaped being cancelled.

It is not just who say or do things which are politically incorrect. It is those who do not condemn these people soon enough, and even those who associated with them in the past. Even if they have also condemned the “source of evil.”

It is a madness.

We do not see this as declining. All points of the political diamond seem to be fond of this technique. Attempts to work around such cancellation are themselves condemned. Often, if someone dares to speak up in favor of someone already made a non-person, they themselves will enjoy the same treatment. The madness is clearly contagious!

How far will this disorder go? Will we see slaveholders other than Robert E. Lee and Jefferson Davis cancelled? Perhaps George Washington? Thomas Jefferson? Even US Grant? We know that the shenanigans of congresscritters and legisgators, both in their chambers and outside, include a strong (and unhealthy) dose of such behavior.
