This story reports an example of why even a (possibly fatally) flawed, corrupted free enterprise system is superior to the CCP/Red China system which is still centrally-controlled and just as corrupt (if not more so) than DC and Sacramento, etc.

“China’s renewable energy expansion is not the clean energy revolution it appears to be. Behind the headlines of record-breaking solar panel installations and towering wind turbines lies a troubling reality: The country is wasting vast amounts of wind and solar power because its coal-dominated grid cannot flexibly integrate them. A neglected study from the Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air (CREA), summarized by the South China Morning Post and brought to light by analyst Ethan Tan, reveals that China’s renewable capacity is largely a mirage. The installed hardware exists, but the electricity it could produce is squandered due to inflexible grid management, medium-term coal contracts, and transmission bottlenecks. For Western nations racing to adopt wind and solar, China’s failure offers a stark warning: capacity without integration is not just waste, it is a costly deception.”
Although the power produced may be “clean energy” (something many engineers and scientists will argue against), if it is not able to be transported and used in an efficient manner, what is accomplished?
This is the same situation we saw in the Soviet Union, to a large degree in the Dritte Reich, and in Labor-controlled Britain.Sadly, it is a goal that many Americans are working towards: not just the now self-identified Communists and Socialists, and their somewhat-secretive compatriots (comrades) like Newsom, Whitmer, Polis, Gresham, Sanders, et al. But many of the managers and shareholders of the huge power conglomorates (investor-owned utilities) and the various local and regional “public power agencies” such as Nebraska’s Public Power Districts, municipally-owned systems, and tribally-owned systems.
They WANT centralized management and control of power production, distribution, and consumption. To them, the various State and tribal Public Utilities Commissions (PUC) are nowhere close to having the power that they believe that government – rulers – should have.
Continuing the story as reported: “The key reason for this wasted wind and solar generation was not a lack of grid infrastructure, as some officials have claimed. CREA stated plainly that the problem was the inflexible management of coal power plants and power grids. Coal-fired power generation in China is largely operated via medium- and long-term contracts that require supplying fixed amounts of electricity at fixed prices. This system creates no incentive for coal plant operators to adjust their output downward when solar and wind are abundant. Instead, coal plants keep churning out power, and renewables are curtailed.”
True integration cannot be top-driven; even with modern computer and modeling systems, the sheer amount of data, correlations, and alternative actions is impossible to manage and apply even on a State-by-State level, much less a national or continental level. It is interesting to note that the data referenced comes from a Chinese government agency (the NEA: National Energy Administration).
Two salient points:
1, knowing how frequently Chinese agencies are proven to have lied about viritually everything, can we believe that the numbers given bear any resemblance to reality? and
2, the NEA may not worry about releasing numbers that are this bad because (the central planner bosses are (a) aware they are fake and so are unworried, and/or (b) they are too ignorant and stupid to understand the numbers at all.
TPOL recalls a situation some years ago on a large AmerInd nation in the Great Plains. The tribal government was concerned about tribal members getting gouged by privately-owned fuel stations, so the tribe bought and operated their own gasoline station. After a few months, the station management reported to the tribal council on progress, and were honored and applauded for the great work they were doing. The dollar amount of sales was increasing by significant amounts each and every month! Income was soaring! But they did not understand enough to notice that the reason the sales amounts in dollars was going up was because the wholesale price and therefore retail price was going up and up. They ignored the fact that the actual amount of gasoline being sold (as measured in gallons) was going down each month. And each month, the subsidy the tribe paid to keep the station running was going up!
