Stupid government tricks – New religions: Environism
Costa Rica bans hunting

(Huffington Post/AOL) Costa Rica on Monday became the first Latin American country to ban hunting as a sport, following an unanimous and final vote from Congress. … Under the new law, those caught hunting can face up to four months in prison or fines of up to $3,000.

Nathan: I keep reading these articles and postings about how “libertarian” Costa Rica is, and how wonderfully free it is and what a great place to live.  Seems that the Nanny State is just as bad in CR as here in the US.  Because they keep emphasizing “sport” hunting, presumably poor peons and AmerInd can hunt for subsistence, but I am not positive about that.  This illustrates the stupidity of government: they can’t enforce the laws they already have against hunting endangered and threatened species, but they want to have to enforce MORE. Stupid indeed.

War on Some Drugs
Marijuana Deaths?

(Huffington Post) Yeah, not a single person has ever died from a weed overdose. We don’t have numbers on pandas, but we’re guessing it’s about the same. According to one frequently cited study, a marijuana smoker would have to consume 20,000 to 40,000 times the amount of THC in a joint in order to be at risk of dying. … Last week, Attorney General Eric Holder announced that the federal government wouldn’t intervene as Colorado and Washington state implement plans for a system of legalized marijuana for adults. The decision opened the floodgates for other states to pursue similar legalization efforts and outraged police groups apparently not excited to see a shift away from the failed war on drugs. … In a joint letter written to Holder on Friday, law enforcement organizations warned that his move would lead to more crime, violence and even death. … Holder said in his statement that the DOJ would still prosecute individuals or entities to prevent “drugged driving.”

Nathan: This minion continues to find ways to get more power and abuse more people:  there is NOT ANY authorization for the Feds to police highway traffic, but this is just the excuse he wants for the VIPR and other DHS and DOJ agencies to strengthen the police state even more.  Turning lemons into lemonade, I guess.  As for the bogus claims of “law enforcement,” visit Tony Ryan and the folks at LEAP.CC, which has been telling the truth about drug prohibition for 11 years.  (Actually, I think Tony and I both agree that for someone to smoke (or eat) pot and go out driving is a very bad idea, as bad as redoing your makeup while driving down the road, or turning around to yell at the kids.  Still, there is absolutely no NEED (let alone authority) to make it a federal matter.  By the way, expect a federal excise tax idea to surface soon.

KERRY: Arabs Will Finance Our War – Video

(Daily  Secretary of State John Kerry said at Wednesday’s hearing that Arab counties have offered to pay for the entirety of unseating President Bashar al-Assad if the United States took the lead militarily.

Nathan: Ah, so we are now reduced to being mercenaries for hire, to do something that (a) shouldn’t be done, (b) doesn’t NEED to be done, (c) will result in much greater damage to the US than to anyone else – including Syria (more than likely).  What a thrill for this born-again warmonger:  he gets to have his fun and someone else pays for it.  Notice also, the lie about “no regime change” has been forgotten or conveniently tossed aside. He must figure (or rather, his boss must figure) that they have it sewn up in the National Legislature.

CRS: DOD Estimates ‘Over 75,000 Troops’ Needed to Secure Syria’s Chem Weapons

Nathan: That is a heavily-reinforced Corps, two divisions and two brigades and a Cav regiment, plus the support troops – IF this 75K includes the support troops off-shore and in a safe “rear” location (though I’ve got to admit “Safe” is kind of hard to figure out.  Turkey, maybe?  Or Arabia?  (Fat chance, with all the Arabs and other Muslims going ape over the “crusaders” occupying “holy ground” even at 500 miles away from Mecca and Medina…)  Let’s see: $2000/person/day for “non-combat” operations, or 150 million a day MINIMUM.  And the Saudis footing the bill?  Right!  Of course, Congress is ignoring this estimate, according to the next story.

Senate Resolution: No Boots on Ground ‘For the Purposes of Combat Operations’

Nathan: Ah, but just what is the definition of “combat operations?”  A whale of a lot of Uncle Sam’s boys died in ‘Nam when it was “low-intensity conflict” and they were just “advising” the ARVN troopers.  And providing “humanitarian aid” seems to have gotten a lot of shooting involved with it in places like Mesopotamia and Afghanistan and the Balkans.

And of course we know that the White House will absolutely and without ANY hesitation honor this decision, because they have a track record of five years+ of absolute honesty, transparency, and fidelity to the rule of law.  Don’t know exactly how they reconcile this with the DoD estimate, but I bet you it is a whopper of a tale!  They don’t expect the administration to honor this: it is a figleaf.  A very dead, dried up figleaf.  Of course, I can be crude and point out that Congress doesn’t NEED a very big figleaf to provide modesty…

Sebelius Describes Federal Government As ‘Our Federal Family’

Nathan: I can see why one radio talk show host has a nickname for her: “Cruella” (from 101 Dalmatians). That woman was all about family and how family should support one another, especially when it came to the puppies “contributing” to her new fur coat.

Rep. Johnson: Public Education ‘Being Dismantled’ by Charter Schools

Nathan: Obviously this Dem didn’t read the WaPo yesterday, did he?  Well, since “charter schools” ARE “public education, just with a Potemkin Village sort of operation where the puppet strings are not so visible, Of course Johnson is so stupid that he probably meant “private schools” which can accept vouchers (once a judge allows them to accept students of his color, at least if the DOJ has their way), and just doesn’t know the difference.  Does Johnson risk getting drummed out of the Liberal league by failing to read the WaPo?  Or do they give him a pass on that, since his comprehension and reading skills seem to be “challenged?”
