Libertarian Commentary on the News, #14-20B: cops and killing and more

By Nathan Barton

Good morning! It is a weekly, if not daily, litany of new crimes and wickedness perpetrated by gangs in this nation: gangs in blue uniforms (well, increasingly, black uniforms) with their fancy cars and high-tech equipment and always heavier and heavier weapons.  The Fuehrer has famously stated that we must remove military weapons from the nation, because they don’t belong on our streets.  At the same time, federal agencies put MORE and MORE automatic weapons in more and more American neighborhoods, business districts, and rural and frontier areas.  And give more and more powerful weapons, including armored vehicles, to local police forces.  These same forces that are afraid of vets coming back Stateside and building IED’s to take out cops.  Why would anyone what to attack cops?  Hmm…

In the Imperial Valley of California, on Mother’s Day, a 32-year-old veteran was stopped by Sheriff’s deputies for a missing front license plate, which is apparently now a capital crime: five tops and a police dog beat, tazed, and ultimately killed the man in front of eyewitnesses, including at least one recording the scene (though poorly).  This follows the shooting of a recent high school  graduate in the same area, again by two cops firing multiple shots.  Cops kill people.  Sometimes with no reason that anyone can see or understand.  Yet, we let these people into places with vulnerable young people.

An incident inside Cedar Creek High School (Bastrop, Texas) involved deputies on scene to break up a fight between two female students. De Rivera was the first to take action, however, and pulled one of the girls away from the other. For some reason, this prompted a deputy, Randy McMillan, to taser him. The 17-year-old fell, hitting his head on the hard floor. De Rivera’s injuries were serious. He spent 52 days in a coma, and is now receiving care in a rehabilitation center. He suffers from lasting brain damage. The officers maintained that their actions were necessary because de Rivera acted “aggressively.”  Their bosses AND a Grand Jury agreed: no charges were filed against the cop, and the family must pay for all the treatment, probably for life.  The idea that cops must respond to any incident means that it is inevitable that things like this happen: we need to keep cops OUT of schools – and we need to get the students OUT of these schools.

Despite these sorts of things, the schools STILL call cops for the most stupid things, like a drawing of a person being hanged made by a middle school student.  At least in this case the cop didn’t execute or permanently injure the student.

Fortunately, sometimes cops can exercise their blood-lust withOUT attacking and killing children, as long as they can damage the children psychologically, as in this situation where the cop executed a litter of supposedly feral kittens in front of the children who had found the small creatures, telling them, “it’s okay, they are going to kitty heaven.”  What a great lesson in compassion and humanity for these children, who will have this cop as a role model for the rest of their lives.

On to other news:

North Dakota State University has forced its fencing club off campus because the blunted blades, usable only for sport, violated “weapons policy.”  Expect this stupidity to spread – or maybe it already has and we are just hearing about it.  Remember that as K-12 schools have been dumbed down more and more, modern colleges are considered the equivalent of high schools 40 years ago and primary schools (through 8th grade) sixty or seventy years ago:  and so the students (ages 17-22 or so) are now treated like they were 8 or 10 year olds – except for sex and booze of course.

Self-defense, YEAH!  It is reported that last week, Nigerian villagers fought off attacks by Boko Haram Residents of three villages in northeastern Nigeria took security into their own hands this week, repelling attacks by Boko Haram insurgents and killing more than 200 of them, residents and officials said.  MamaLiberty noted, “Not that there’s much of a way to verify this… but I hope it is completely true.”  As do I: it is more and more critical that volunteer groups arm themselves and work to protect themselves and their communities from thugs regardless of uniform or loyalty.  We see it in Mexico, we see it in Columbia, we may be seeing it in some parts of Ukraine, and South Sudan.  We need it everywhere.  (Of course, as some liberal “friends” point out, this resistance is the direct result of the encouragement of the Fuehrer’s Consort’s tweets.  Of course. /sarc)

Meanwhile, on the North African coast in Libya, there is a coup attempt by a former, Anti-Islamist general whose troops stormed parliament and demanded it be suspended.  So while Benghazi seems to again be calming down in the US (despite attempts by many anti-Administration figures to push it), Libya is again demonstrating what a typical Muslim “nation” it is and spasming.  Can NATO bombers and warships be far off?

Back to killer and abusive cops: Is this Libyan business one of the reasons the FedGov and many local police are so fearful of “increasing crime” even while crime rates have been dropping for thirty years?  InfoWars.com has a video of a news report on the militarization of our police forces featuring a veteran Indiana police officer’s remark that police are having to prepare for returning veterans with the ability to make IED’s (Improvised Explosive Devices).  Supposedly, one of the reasons our police forces are giving for having to become more like military forces is the soldiers returning home from the front.  At the same time that the police forces are recruiting, frankly, returning combat veterans that are stupid enough to be cops.  This could very well be self-fulfilling prophesy: if we veterans believe that the cops consider US to be the threat, then we are tempted to consider the COPS to be the threat to the freedom that we are and have been supposedly fighting for in every place from France and the Pacific through Southeast Asia and South America, and now Southwest Asia.  It happened in 1946 in Athens, Tennessee, when veterans of WW2 were forced to take up arms to defend themselves and their community against local tyranny of an elected Sheriff.  It can and should happen in 2014 and coming years.
