A sad milestone was reached on Tuesday, 22 DEC 2015: The Free Thought Project tells us a suspected drug dealer was killed during a no-knock raid on his house by cops in Vermont. This brings the total to 1174 dead (killed by cops) this year, and in all fifty states. Vermont was the only state without a killing by cops. No way of telling how many were justified, but this one is already hitting the top of the smell-o-meter. Supposedly the man had a black-powder, muzzle-loading rifle which he didn’t fire: the cops fired 13 times.
Deadly AND stupid. Freedom Outpost reports on the shocking nineteen-hour standoff in which cops destroyed a house (and a family’s Christmas) despite the fact that they (a) had the wrong house, and (b) the house was unoccupied: their desperate fugitive was nowhere near. Donations are pouring in to help offset the homeowner’s costs: she came back from a trip to find it uninhabitable.
Mama’s Note: How can any of these assaults and insults be any way “justified?” Very few involve people actually committing aggression against others, and the introduction of police to most other situations usually makes a bad thing much, much worse. And, of course, most of this involves the insane “war on drugs,” though the war on guns and other inanimate objects will probably increase.
The fad may be expanded to all fifty states? Freedom Outpost reports on a Dem-sponsored bill in Congress that would use $360 million borrowed or stolen dollars to create a Fifty-State-wide gun buyback program (sic). Supposedly, they will pay 25% over the “market value” of each weapon, and then destroy them. The participants will get a gift card which cannot be spent on buying a weapon or ammo. Lots of incentive for the weak-minded to join in the fun. And LOTS of incentive for petty criminals to steal guns. (More experienced criminals no doubt have better markets and can demand better prices). The idea of a national gun buy-back, especially funded so Scroogelike, is an indication that they just don’t know what to do to respond to the looming defeat of the war on guns.
Mama’s Note: And, obviously, they can’t “buy back” something they didn’t ever own to start with. It might be a good way to get rid of a beater gun, but just remember that these things are probably heavily covered by cameras and other surveillance.
Because, you see, the 750 million modern, working firearms in the Fifty States increases daily: The Daily Beast (yes, that rather disgusting publication) has an article “explaining” why more and more women are buying guns. “A recently released New York Times/CBS poll … found that the number of Americans supporting a ban on assault weapons is 19 points lower today than it was after the shooting of Giffords and others in 2011. … the number of Americans supporting stricter gun control in general has slipped 7 points in just two months. … More and more women are buying guns. As the number of female gun owners has risen, so has the number of women expressing skepticism of gun control. More than a third of the women who participated in the National Sports Shooting Foundation’s most recent survey identified as new gun owners. This is consistent with data from other organizations, including the National Sporting Goods Association.
According to the NSGA’s Annual Sports Participation Report, the number of women who practice target shooting increased nearly 36 percent (from 4.31 million to 5.86 million) between 2004 and 2014, while the number of women participating in hunting increased 23 percent (from 2.68 million to 3.3 million). In response to a request for comment, an NRA spokesman reported tracking a 77 percent increase between 2004 and 2011 in the number of women who own firearms. Historically there has been a significant gender divide on the issue of gun control. But according to a 2012 Pew Research Center report, there was a 9 point increase in the number of women declaring their support for gun rights between 2008 and 2012.” Statistics are great, but WHY? More disillusionment with government, police, and other related institutions? More desire for self-assurance? The ability to defend themselves? That seems to be The Daily Beast’s take, which is a bit surprising for a Tranzi publication. BUT TDB doesn’t seem to realize that it may be to defend themselves against more than a guy in a mask on a dark street…
If the hoploclasts and hoplophobes are running scared (or, even, shudder, converting!), will they resort to more brutal and direct tactics? Is this hype, panic, or a warning we should take seriously? Freedom Outpost has a list of 11 action items which they claim the White House will begin to put into place through executive order starting immediately in 2016. And goes on to claim that “uncompensated employment,” conscription by the FedGov, pointing out that this is slavery (which is true). No specific sources are given for any of the eleven items, but existing executive orders are quoted in support of the slavery claim. Is this REALLY the Tranzi, squatter, agenda? Some of the items HAVE been floated, or even enacted, in the past, but some are not familiar to me, and it is a stretch to picture them put in place without violent reaction to them. As for slavery – well, what are taxes? What is ObummerCare and other regulations and statutes which require that medical services be provided without certainty of compensation?
Mama’s Note: There is only one rational answer to any of these government moves, new or old: NO. Your move. We will not comply.
People in general must begin to realize that none of this would be possible if there was no widespread compliance and acceptance of government mandates.
We are urged to be alert, but what is needed even more is a willingness to act: to disobey laws that are unjust and immoral: the article does point that out, at the end, which is good. But it must be emphasized more than it is. L Neil Smith points this out very clearly in the Libertarian Enterprise, in a recent article, very lengthy but filled with wisdom and an appeal to stop obeying laws – specifically gun laws – which are immoral and unconstitutional. “Tell them that Americans have obeyed their last gun law. “
But disobedience is NOT enough: active planning and resistance must also take place, or the disobedient will be neutralized one at a time. It doesn’t have to be VIOLENT, but it must take into account the very high possibility of violence. And our planning and resistance HAVE to take into account that we will be vilified and condemned for what we are doing. We see an example of that in Europe.
The Daily Express has an interesting discussion, “MAPPED: Shocking march of the far-right across Europe as migration fears reach fever pitch.”
Mama’s Note: Sadly, most seem to think the only option to socialism is fascism of some sort. I didn’t see a word about individual liberty and responsibility, of course. All that would be needed is the rise of some charismatic figure to lead the way to a new holocaust.
Keep in mind that to many in the European press, lovers of liberty (including some we know) are “far-right” and lumped together with neo-Nazis. And the media hates personal liberty and individual responsibility even more than they claim to hate fascism. And fear the loss of members in left-wing (Tranzi) parties: they MUST be going to the right wing, after all, there is no other choice, right?
What would Jesus have us do? Eagle Rising is asking the question, now that Franklin Graham (son of Billy and the new “America’s pastor” title holder) has quit the GOP, will other christians follow his example? I expect the answer to be “very few” as too many who claim to be christian, especially those who are members of Protestant denominations, cannot see the truth that both the GOP and Democratic Parties are antithetical to the way of life taught in the New Testament. They have been deluded and allow themselves to continue to be deluded by the political parties. Despite its stated positions on many issues which appear to be in keeping with Christ’s teachings (and which many of its “leaders” have repudiated in word or fact), the Republican Party’s foundational concepts are totally at odds with essential New Testament teaching in most areas. While I hope that christians will quit BOTH old political parties, it is too late for that to make any difference.
Enough is enough.
