Drinking the Koolaid

According to recent reports, finally after 15 months a “majority” of Americans think that we can go back to life as normal after the Pandemic Panic. Specifically, that we do NOT need to stay home as much as possible and minimize contact with others.

But apparently there is a big exception. Supposedly, 71% of people who self-identify as Democrats – 71%! – believe that we must continue to stay at home as much as possible, for fear of getting or giving COVID-19 to others.

In other words, we must maintain our siege mentality – this cowering and simpering obedience to authority who is both looking out for our best interests and doing the will of the people. Clearly, the majority of Americans are deluded and unwilling to believe the science.

Of course, the politicians, from DC to Statehouses and right to most large American cities and counties – and many smaller ones – must make us do what is “right” and continue to isolate, segregate, disinfect, distance, and mask.

But I don’t think it is because they are fearful that a lot more of us might die. No, it is because they have discovered in the past 15 months just how much more power the Pandemic, their Panic, and the Lockdown has given them. For now, and for the future.

As for the 71% of Democrats, certainly SOME of those share this reason for demanding that we continue to lockdown, continue to further trash the economy, and have the “commoners” bow the knee to their “betters. BUT most of these rank-and-file Democrats are no different than Jim Jones’ followers. They have drunk the Koolaid. We cannot but pity them.

Of course, it is NOT just Beer Flu that has been sold to these people (and too many of other political persuasions). Or not just the need for a Lockdown. The claim that the origin of Beer Flu in the laboratories of Wuhan has been condemned time and time again by Democrats, SJW, Media, and “scientists” as nothing but another (Trump) conspiracy theory. Yet now, some of the most ardent and prominent proponents of the condemnation have now retracted their condemnation – in fact if not clearly. So what do the Koolaid-drinkers do? They seek to cancel those people.

I am reminded of the Communist Party in the Soviet Union, and in the United States, back in the 1930s, 1940s, and 1950s. Changing the party line was easy, as George Orwell would later point out. It was getting the rank-and-file (and the fellow-travelers) to accept the reversal that was a challenge. (Orwell, unfortunately, pointed out one way to do that, in his 1984 novel – or training manual.)

Perhaps we are seeing the same phenomenon in the Senate treatment of the vainglorious and incredibly damaging “For The People” Act, HR-1: 800 pages of totalitarian enactments to ensure Democratic (and SJW) dominance. (At least until the pressure is released in violent and destructive revolution.) Now that Joe Manchin has ensured gridlock in the Senate to defeat that huge roll of toilet paper, his fellow Democrats, the Media, and the rest of their gang are busy cancelling him. With the apparently blind support (again) of a majority of Democrat “grassroots” supporters.

Apparently Kirsten Sinema of Arizona is the next target in the Democratic offensive against what is left of Constitutional government and sanity in DC. Her refusal to support the entire Joe-Kamala (and SJW) agenda is seen as evil, a betrayal, and tantamount to voting for Trump.

Again, it appears that many rank-and-file Democrats, across the Fifty States, have bought the Koolaid and are busy mixing the delicious drink. Whether they do so in West Virginia and kArizona in 3 to 5 years? That remains to be seen.

In the meantime, we all get to enjoy the results of the Koolaid drinkers: we are neighbors to the virtual compound which now or will soon reek of rotting virtual corpses. And guess who will get to clean up the scattered bodies?

Sadly, regardless of what has now happened to most State’s lockdowns, to Faucet and others who now deny what they preached loudly for so long, or HB1, we can be assured that MUCH of what is being shoved down our throats will have to be swallowed, courtesy of the scumbags that make up too much of the GOP.

I am, alas, all too familiar with the treaty between free money and free life. This reset, this new society, is a Faustian bargain. The free marketeers, the “people are fungible” have a great deal of blame in this. The solution will be brutal on those who are weak, those whom laziness and cowardice rule.

I think we will agree, with the understanding that the “free marketeers” of whom you write are NOT really for a “free market” in which people can voluntarily buy what they wish from whom they wish, and sell to whom they wish – all without government control and interference. The so-called “free marketeers” WANT more government control, even while they pretend to push for free trade. And as you point out, people LET them.
