And maybe not even then.
On Friday, a coalition of three Antifa factions reportedly launched a counter-protest against an “anti-vaxxer” and “anti-mask” protest on Boston Commons in Massachusetts.
As I understand it, the “Rise Against Tyranny” protest was organized by an organization called “Super Happy Fun America.” Yes, it sounds like a Laurel and Hardy comedy.
And it definitely sounds crazy. Even more crazy, at least two of the Antifa groups were the “Green Monster Antifa” and “Solidarity Against Hate – Boston” and they were accusing the Super Happy Fun America people of being “Capitol Rioters” – apparently referring to the 06 January 2021 protests in DC.
Nuts! Bonkers! Do I have this right? Antifa, you are saying you’re being anti-fascist by support mandates put in place by……hold on…..the federal government? And a state government you have viciously attacked (in words, at least) for being fascist? And in support of a mandate pushed strongly by Big Pharma?
Of course, SHFA is defined in Wikipedia as “Super Happy Fun America is a Massachusetts-based right-wing political organization. SHFA and its leaders are known for their ties to white nationalism and the far-right, and the organization has been described by The Daily Beast as a front for the far-right organization Resist Marxism.”
SHFA has it a bit different on their website: “Super Happy Fun America is a right of center civil rights organization focusing on defending the Constitution, opposing gender madness and defeating cultural Marxism. President John Hugo is leading the campaign to restore American liberties in these troubled times. Our band of patriots are fighting for the return to Constitutional rule.” (Assuming that realize is their website, of course.) They organized a “Straight Pride Parade” in Boston a couple of years ago. They are also big on supporting the police.
Anyway, apparently Boston riot police showed up to deal with the violence. There was some shoving, walking around barriers, and according to some reports, more counter-protesters (Antifa) than protesters (SHFA) and more cops than both the groups. A couple of people got arrested. The photos I saw of the riot cops (in black or navy blue uniforms) could have been storm troopers marching through a Star Wars episode. The rental van with its windshield shattered (after reportedly pushing through police lines) is bad but far less threatening than the usual Antifa protest or counter-protest (Portland, Seattle, etc.)
Sigh. Consistency does not seem to be a strong
And from a liberty-lover’s point of view – a pox on both their houses. And on a once-free nation called Massachusetts, praised by CNN and others for its high-vaccination rate and high-masking rate – and how wonderfully they obey the orders of government.
As in 1920s and early 1930s Germany, or 1910s and 1920s Italy, who can tell who is on what side? Who can believe what the various sides say about themselves, let alone their political opponents. It is not easy to NOT be concerned about what such people will do next. Yes, I understand that so-called Progressives must push the meme that the GOP is a bunch of racist rurriner-hating plutocrats, but to use the Republicans who won statewide office last week in Virginia as “proof” of how racist and anti-immigrant and wealthy the GOP is? Seriously?
None of these groups deserves to have ANY power – or any say-so in which the rest of us do. But then, neither do the governments that they are for – or against – or, wait, what time if it?
America has always been filled with weirdos, starting with way too many AmerInd groups who all believed they were the only “real people” and believed in sacrificing people to their gods. All the later European, English, African, Asian, and Middle-eastern folks who arrived later brought was more forms of weirdness. It seems as though the problem comes when government empowers some and dehumanizes others.
(All those hummingbird-god human sacrifice groupies in Mexico City would have run out of people to enslave and kill if they hadn’t been supported by a government. Consider the fate of Shakers and other odd religious groups. Or how many Puritans are left.)
Which results in the obvious fact: most of these groups and parties and organizations don’t want liberty: they just want THEIR brand of tyranny to win. We lovers of liberty need to stand firmly against ALL of them.
