The headline phrase is one of the many additions to our culture, from the Star Trek franchise. One used both in the cause of liberty and tyranny. It is a meme that government would love for us to accept. That those controllers, those people who fear that all people are like them and fear liberty and freedom, want us to accept.
The reality is of course that resistance is NOT futile, as American and world history shows:
It isn’t just in the Fifty States that we know that resistance is NOT futile. And that we hear it constantly preached that “Resistance is futile.” And it is not just government that teaches that: it is big business, and far too many religions. And all too often, it is friends and neighbors and family that try to get us to accept the idea.
In New Zealand, resistance takes on new meaning, as JPFO discusses in a recent article on the new post-mosque killing spree knee-jerk reaction. The panic exhibited by its Parliament and far too many people has triggered some very nasty results. We’ve seen the same thing happen right here in the Fifty States: Colorado after Columbine, Connecticut after Sandy Hook, Virginia after the Tech murders. But again, it is not in just the matter of guns rights, of the right to defend ourselves, that this meme is pushed. We see it in the matter of freedom of speech, the liberty to travel, the freedom to run our own lives in virtually every way.
But these CAN be resisted, and time after time, lovers of liberty and their allies have won against them. We have NOT been assimilated.
But the attacks WILL continue. Those who want to control all humanity are not giving up. So neither should we. We must resist. And resistance to tyranny is not a one-time thing. It must be a constant theme of life.
But how can we be sure that resistance is NOT futile?
For those who are not religious, we know that liberty and freedom are part of the natural order of things. History demonstrates time and again that ultimately, tyranny and totalitarianism and nanny states fail. Human progress is most rapid in times of (at least relative) liberty. And in those places where liberty is found.
For those who believe in the God of the Bible, the Creator, we know that liberty is a precious gift of God to His creation: to humankind. As Paul wrote, “If God be for us, who can be against us?” Ultimately, those who seek to steal our liberty will fail, for He is on our side.
It is essential that we remember that time and nature (and God) are on the side of liberty. And never give up!
Resistance is NOT futile. We WILL restore liberty, here in the Fifty States and elsewhere. It may not be in my lifetime, or in yours. Or it may happen within weeks or months, when the conditions are right.
