Childishness – a growing epidemic in America

Among the many things wrong with government is the people that are in charge. Whether they are elected or appointed, we discover quickly that they and their personality and personal desires create problems for everyone in their jurisdiction. Primarily by stealing more of our freedoms.

The present occupant of 1600 PA is frequently chided for his frequent, vitriolic, and seemingly spur-of-the-moment Tweets. This habit is (we are told) unpresidential, rude, crude, socially-unacceptable, and childish. All of this may be true, but objective observers seem to agree that his media use is both effective and have likely changed the natural of the presidency for good.

(Assuming that the US presidency is around very long.)

Trump is far from the only politician (or celebrity) who behaves childishly.

Let me share the latest example of this. The “woke” Tranzi regressionist Andrew Cuomo is governor of New York. According to MSN, he just vetoed a bill which would allow more federal judges to marry people in New York State. (Apparently, the law previously allowed only state and local (municipal?) judges and federal judges actually based in NYS to do so. As far as I know, preachers and priests still can do so. I don’t know if they have to be domiciled or “on duty” in NYS. And I don’t know if NYS still has such things as justices of the peace.)

Nothing childish, I agree, about vetoing a bill. Usually. The infantile reason for doing so is because some federal judges are appointed by Trump. His veto message makes it clear that this is all about Trump, who “does not embody who we are as New Yorkers.”

This bill passed the Democratically-controlled legislature by 144 to 2 in the Assembly and 61 to 1 in the Senate. So presumably the legislature could override this veto. But since Cuomo raised their awareness of the evil nature of judges appointed by Trump, perhaps the veto will be sustained. Trump derangement syndrome is almost certainly rife among Democrats in New York.

Now, I don’t believe that a State should have any say-so at all about who officiates at a wedding – or even that it is necessary to have Anyone preside over a wedding. I don’t believe that a State (or any government) should have anything at all to do with a wedding – or even with recording or documenting a marriage. But the childish behavior of a man who supposedly governs 20 million people should make us pause.

“I’m gonna take my toys and not play. I want you to go away,” is the sort of attitude we expect a four-year-old to have. And one we expect them to grow out of in a matter of years, as they mature.

But the attitude of Cuomo is not all that uncommon among the politicians and government leaders of the United States. And indeed, the world. It is not limited to Democrats, or to “progressives” or “liberals” either.

Such behavior is characteristic of immaturity. But it is also a characteristic of tyranny. A famous historical event was the Roman Emperor, Caligula, appointing his favorite horse to the Senate. It was one of many reasons that he was removed from office – with a gladius (a Roman legionnaire sword).

Indeed, Cuomo’s action can be compared to the very things that his hated political enemy, Trump, is accused of in the impeachment charges. Is he not “obstructing” the New York legislature by refusing to approve a law so overwhelmingly passed for the must absurd of reasons? And is he not “abusing his power” as governor by failing to carry out his duties (in a reasonable, adult manner) in order to strike out at his political enemy?

When we give government power over us, we give idiots like this power over us. We expose ourselves to more abuse, more insults, more excuses to deny our liberties.
