Where do we stand?

Here at The Price of Liberty, we are pretty limited in “staff,” and none of us are full time. Well, except for the spirit of Mama Liberty. (Whom we knew as “Lady Susan” from the old Liberty Round Table and Knights of Non-Aggression days.) There is Nathan and five of his family members – all of whom provide ideas and bounce facts and interpretations off each other. And then there are a fair number of fellow-travelers. Correspondents and writers of their own webzines and blogs. A small (and we think) select crew.

We have our differences, of course. And can get into serious arguments – and have.

But we are united on a number of things. One of this was touched on by John Whitehead in a column published by the Future of Freedom Foundation a couple of years back:

[The Department of Homeland Security (DHS)’s] dual reports on Rightwing and Leftwing “Extremism,” which broadly define extremists as individuals, military veterans and groups “that are mainly antigovernment, rejecting federal authority in favor of state or local authority, or rejecting government authority entirely,” these tactics bode ill for anyone seen as opposing the government.”

John Whitehead

That’s us. Including Lady Susan’s spirit. And we’ve certainly endured our share of being treated ill by various government goons and even people who are family or (supposedly) friends. To say nothing of the treatment we endure (along with so many of you) from government, big business, and the parasites that infest our communities and society.

We aren’t boasting about this, and we certainly are far from the only people who suffer in this way.

But what do we believe?

  1. We believe in the Creator. (Mama Liberty, near the end of her days, said that she did not necessarily believe in God, but she understood that her concept of God was based on her Episcopalian and Catholic background. I think their views of God are, to put it mildly, warped.) But those of us now working with The Price of Liberty do believe in a Creator, not just a clockmaker but a Person (Persons, actually) Who is actively involved in sustaining the universe He created. Who created a universe with universal laws of everything: material and immaterial.
  2. We believe in LIBERTY. That it is one of the Creator’s greatest gifts to those Whom He created is liberty. Indeed, in the words of one gifted creation of His, that God gave us life, liberty, and the ability and desire to pursue happiness, now and forever. That is, free will to decide and act as we will, with the understanding that we are individually responsible for our use of our free will, or liberty, in our lives. His universe’s laws are designed to encourage, facilitate, and function with free will, but to discourage and punish acts of irresponsibility.
  3. We believe that God hates those who seek to steal life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness (including property) from other humans. But that He loves even those who do these things because they are His creation, and His love will overcome His hatred if they repent of their actions, even late in life. Just as He loves and will forgive those who commit lesser sins, if they repent and accept the forgiveness in accordance with the laws of His creation. And we believe that we must OPPOSE in every possible way those who steal from other humans. Especially those who steal liberty.
  4. We believe that liberty demands – and cannot survive without – RESPONSIBILITY. A key sign of adulthood is accepting responsibility for our actions and the consequences of our actions, even if we did not intend those results. Liberty without responsibility is just license, and too many people want just that. Those people, whatever they call themselves, are NOT lovers of liberty, they are ultimately parasites.

There are many more things that those of us in and behind The Price of Liberty believe in, but these are key.

We don’t always live up to our ideals. And that goes for the writings here and elsewhere. But we try, we strive, to live in liberty and love for one another and others who love liberty, Even if we don’t agree. And we believe that even the worst enemy of liberty has the possibility, and the ability, to repent and embrace liberty and love. One of the prices we pay for liberty is seeing those who fail to repent and instead hate and fight liberty, knowing what they have and will lose.

Feel free to join with us, in paying the price of liberty.
