“We’re all criminals” redux

By Nathan Barton

It is a theme TPOL has addressed many times, and even the scummy mainstream media constantly point this out. Not just the FedGov but all levels of government here in the States can make life miserable for families on a daily basis.  We saw it with families travel this summer as they did in 2020 (and would have even without the Beer Flu) and in 2019, And just summer? Hardly. Any time of year.

It may seem somewhat a silly list – until you tick off a federal bureaucrat enough, or get on the wrong side of a federal prosecutor (for almost any reason). Ditto for state and local prosecutors and even ordinary government attorneys (like County attorneys and City attorneys):

  • Arcane traffic laws
  • Bizarre and complex licensing regulations
  • Property management codes and requirements
  • Sales and service taxes and fees … and fees … and did I list fees?
  • Masking and vaccine requirements, decrees, and related rules
  • Permits and applications and permit conditions
  • This list could go on…
    • and on…
    • and on…

But I can speak from personal, direct knowledge, of how people can get in trouble, cited and fined, for what seem to be trivial, minor problems. It is very easy to get on the wrong side of bureaucrats, including cops, and politicians.  And if you ARE, then they will seek every opportunity to demonstrate their power over you, to show you up for a despicable person, and just plain to make life miserable for you, your family, and your friends.

In the eyes of the enforcers, you are nothing more than an unindicted criminal, just overripe fruit waiting to be plucked, and they are eager to get on with the plucking, thank you!

We must ask, is this yet another reason that so many young people are (a) cynical, (b) rejecting of any sort of “virtue,” and (c) willing to try socialism and other disproven philosophies because the status quo is intolerable? They KNOW this system of government is corrupt, and they haven’t been told the truth about WHY. They are willing to do anything that is frowned upon by some part of the current power system… and what do they have to lose?

Consider this quote:

“Virtue is harder to be got than a knowledge of the world; and, if lost in a young man, is seldom recovered.”
— John Locke (1632-1704) English philosopher and political theorist

Today’s youth are constantly told (by both proponents and opponents of socialism) that our current society and government is NOT socialism.  (Never mind the facts: the States ARE socialist in naturel.) They are constantly told that the reason for politicians and government are doing the things that they are is because such things are “virtuous” and good for people.  Yet they see the daily results and want
nothing to do with anything that smacks of virtue decreed (or suggested) by others. Is it any wonder they are cynical? Everything that people in power claim to have one purpose has another – and the only common factor seems to be how other people can be abused and exploited. Power and money.

That first quote goes along with this one.
“Morality may consist solely in the courage of making a choice.”
— Léon Blum (1872-1950) Prime Minister of France
Today, people fear making a choice because they know that whatever choice they make, some government agency will decide it is WRONG. Because government goons KNOW you are a criminal, and they will use any choice you make as an excuse to treat you like one. There is no right choice, in the eyes of the tyrants, from DC right down to your local homeowners’ association.

Let me end with this diatribe, quoting someone who knew bitterly the result of making choices when dealing with government and other tyrants.

“When you choose the lesser of two evils, always remember that it is still an evil.”
— Max Lerner (1902-1992) Russian-born American journalist and educator Source: Actions and Passions, 1949

For those who are already pre-judged to be criminals, all choices are evil in the eyes of the government that seeks to dominate us in every way, often with the excuse of “protecting our rights.” And truly, the choices are evil: whatever we do will result in great costs to us. Even if that choice is to simply cave in. For the tyrants are never satisfied.

I always wonder why people who are cynical about “government” will go for a system (socialism) that involves more government. It will be the same people doing the same things. Nothing will change because they are “your” people.
