As the last few days in Los Angeles has demonstrated, we have a new edition of the annual chaos, violence, and destruction that now characterizes the largest cities of the once-great American union. The Crazy Years (Heinlein’s idea) continue.
It is probably not a question of whether the anti-ICE “peaceful protests” in Los Angeles will spread to a dozen other cities. Rather, it is a question of when. What can be done? Both as a society and as individuals and families?

As [Bob wrote about in March 2023 and we here at TPOL have decried several times regarding the formerly-Golden State’s reparations] efforts a couple of years back and put out a warning – reparations are coming. First, California and then the movement is spreading to other blue states, as they follow suit. [And don’t think that red and purple States will not be impacted.]
Here is an update:
Funding for Reparations Initiatives in California: The 2024-2025 state budget allocates up to $12 million for reparations-related efforts. Some of this money will be used to establish an agency to oversee future (direct) reparations.
Here is the thing about creating new bureaucracies – once they are set up, they become leviathans.
TPOL thoughts: This is just a earnest payment (not even a “down payment”). $12B is a tiny portion of the $800 billion Sacramento wants to steal and dole out to the descendants of black slaves. (And notice, nothing is said about AmerInd slaves (of whites, blacks, or other AmerInd), or of how Chinese and other immigrants were in essence slaves when brought to California. Why? They don’t have the votes, no doubt.
Meanwhile, California’s vaunted, compassionate, and Woke leaders seek to do everything possible to complete the destruction of California’s economy, society, and future. More and more parts of the State resemble 1960s and 1970s Third World countries. This will, of course, continue.
The pushback against Trump 2.0 comes as no surprise. His attempt to “bring efficiency” to the FedGov while ending at least some of the corruption and theft is naturally going to be opposed by those who have grown fat with stolen money doled out by government agencies. To say nothing of the millions of government employees. Or the millions of people who have benefited from government welfare: whether “official” welfare recipients or beltway bandits and all the contractors. If they were not screaming so loudly (and calling in the tabs of their corrupt judges), we might worry that is was just another example of playacting.
So far The Donald has not done much to threaten the gun-control machine. Nor a hundred other unconstitutional and immoral operations. And in some cases, efforts have been rolled back. Hopefully temporarily.
Much of this has to do with the fact that generations of Americans have been coddled and cozened into believing that government can save us. Not just that government is essential and can follow different rules from us mere humans. Or the hundred other lies perpetrated by the true beneficiaries of government. And especially those running the agencies and the “private” firms grown wealthy from government largess.
Here is a thought experiment: Go down a street and ask a couple of dozen people “is government responsible for the safety of your children?” Don’t be surprised if most will tell you “yes.” (Don’t argue with them. It’s common to believe this.)
A few months ago, an article by the Associated Press promoted efforts nationwide by parents to see “meaningful” gun control laws passed to prevent tragedies like those in Nashville and Uvalde. The article decries “mixed results.” Using our TPOL (unpatented, uncopyrighted) Regressive Language Interpreter (RLI), this means “gun bans” and “failure to outlaw guns for all but cops and celebrities’ security guards.”
Continue readingIs a governmental system of rule by judges (called a kritarchy) acceptable? Tolerable? Able to be endured? Better than what we are supposed to have?
In our recent commentary, we concluded that such a system would be intolerable. And what we seem to have morphed into in these Fifty States today, a form of kritarchy, is just as intolerable.
(We are not alone in this idea, though our reasons may be different than that of others. Consider what Craig Paul Roberts wrote: “The incompetent two-bit punk ideologues that Congress has appointed to the bench are hardly to be respected. They are the enemies of justice and the American people. They are currently busy at work overturning the presidential election. Little wonder the ruling establishment let Trump win. They knew that they could stop him cold with the judiciary and move him in their direction with advice that gives him ‘broader perspectives.’ “
Supporters of international progressivism (Communism) claim, “They just didn’t do it right all these other times. But now we know better and will make it work!” There is no doubt that advocates of judge-rule will make the same claim.

Continue readingSome conservatives and libertarians are upset with SCOTUS. Again. Particularly with Kavenaugh and Barrett. According to the Western Journal, they voted with liberal members and the Chief Justice to refuse to hear a case in which Maryland has outlawed an entire class of weapons from private ownership.
Here at TPOL, we have to admit that we fail to see how any reasonable reading of the US Constitution would allow such a thing to stand. Of course, it isn’t the Constitution: it is politics and the evil perception that “democracy” allows a majority of people (or voters, at least) to deny fundamental, God-given human rights. Because of fear and propaganda: or indeed, for whatever reason.
We are again reminded of this famous quote attributed to Benjamin Franklin:
The Western Journal article quoted Kavenaugh to suggest that the refusal to hear the case had something to do with some kind of scheme being concocted behind the scenes and that glorified throne that the Nine Nazgul sit behind and on. That the SCOTUS is just waiting for the “perfect” case to come up that will let them once again restore self-defense rights long denied by the FedGov and many States.
Don’t hold your breath. We too hope – perhaps wish is a better term – that would happen. But the SCOTUS Nazgul have long demonstrated that they value power far more than they value liberty or the Constitution.
Continue readingApparently the entire Artemis lunar exploration and colonization program run by and done by NASA (with billions of your taxpayer dollars and hundreds of contractors, subcontractors, and other parasites) is again failing.
Some green-propaganda-provider tells us that an “engine failure” doomed their most recent moon mission. The bloated and largely wasteful Artemis program has been limping along since 2019. They now claim the goal of getting humans to Luna again next year (2026) is likely not going to happen. (It has already been delayed a year just in the last 18 months.) Notice this failure came after NASA and millions of Russia-haters made great fun of the failure of the last Russian lunar excursion, including glee over a NASA spacecraft (robotic, of course) finding the little crater that marked the machine’s crash point.
NASA says that it will take years to rebuild some of the hardware destroyed in the crash.
Continue readingA good many observers tell us that the People’s Republic of China is on its last legs. That a combination of demographics and the centralization and massive cult of personality of Xi are leading inevitably to a complete collapse. Some have gone so far as to predict mass starvation and depopulation. Of chaos beyond that of a hundred warlords fighting over the scraps.
China will collapse within years, maybe mere months. China’s demographics, its economy, the arrogance and egotism of its leadership, and world economic conditions all contribute to this. The various advocates of this view may disagree on how quickly and how total the collapse may be, but agree that China is in the toaster, just waiting to pop out.
Others, of course, see China as the current ultimate doomslaying threat to the States and Western Civilization. These include the military-industrial complex, screaming about the boogeyman which will gobble up the Pacific, an ocean covered with the debris and bodies of American and allied navies. Dropping bombs (or just rocks) from orbit. Joining with Russia to revive the worst fears of the half-century of the Cold War.
As recently stated by SecDef Hegseth, China is just months away from exploding. Not into chaos (Vision 1) but across the Western Pacific, gobbling up everything in sight. Starting with the American fleet and bases, then Taiwan, the Philippines, Indochina, and possibly even Korea and Japan. Attempting (and according to them, without trillions in spending by American taxpayers) to make the 21st Century the “Asian Century.” And worst case: hyperspeed and orbital bombardment of North America and at least Britain with nukes.
Still others, though, cite evidence to show that China has already undergone a massive depopulation, and is flat-out lying about having 1.4 billion people. (The claims are as few as 300 to 400 million.) And evidence that China is already breaking up internally.
And finally, there are those who claim that China is an essential part of the world (and American) economic system and we must be sure that they survive (and are placated) to ensure that we here in the States survive.

The International Olympics Committee has decided that the 2028 Summer Olympics (to be held in Los Angeles) is to feature a number of new (to the Olympics) sports. Flag football (the child’s version of American football, not the British stuff) will be featured, together with such sports as lacrosse, squash, baseball, softball, and something called T20 cricket. (T20 is a short version of traditional British cricket.)
Flag football has always been considered a “kinder, gentler” form of traditional American “tackle” football. Apparently, unlike traditional collegiate and NFL American football, there are both male and female teams. It is played on a half-size football field – apparently with Imperial rather than metric measurements – and is supposedly known for the speed of the game. Traditionally, it has been considered to be a “wimpy” version: suitable for children under age 12 and normal women.
It is reported to be growing more popular, and the two world “powerhouses” for the activity (sport?) are the States: the United States of America and the United Mexican States. Besides the smaller field and the flags, the uniforms appear to be an abbreviated version of soccor uniforms: not as abbreviated for women as current, skimpy running and jumping outfits, but a lot more skin than American football’s armored uniforms (except for “lingerie football”). (Which, given the current rapid decline of such old, outdated standards of modesty may be a reason for this addition.)

Wow – a wise decision? Maybe?
Every once in a while, SCOTUS does something which appears to be quite good. However strange and whatever the reason, it is cause to celebrate at least a bit. Too bad they are not more consistent in actually judging honestly and fairly and constitutionally. (Assuming we are right about this decision being “good” – and that it doesn’t have some odd results.)
This latest “good decision” happened recently, according to a report on the Ames v. Ohio Youth Department case. Basically, it is a decision against at least one kind of judicial overreach.
Not only that, but surprisingly, SCOTUS issued a unanimous ruling. (Of course, that is itself a reason to worry about what is going on.)
The Nazgul decided that members of majority groups do not need to meet a higher standard to prove discrimination under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act. Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson, writing for the Court, clarified that employment discrimination protections apply equally to all individuals, regardless of their group status.
If we understand this correctly, it means that you no longer have to be a member of some kind of “privileged” (read, historically disadvantaged) group to be able to enjoy equal rights under the law. Which is contrary to 80 years of court decisions.
