Halloween chills and safety

Tomorrow is “All Saints’ Eve,” better known as Halloween, to many the official highlight of Fall. Fortunately, governments have not (to our knowledge, at least) made this yet another federal holiday. And although apparently many government-run tax-funded schools have decided that the holiday violates their religious beliefs (in Diversity, Inclusion, and Equity), most children look forward to it.

With recent killings in Maine and elsewhere, the media is trying (and often succeeding, together with hoplophobic and hoploclastic media) to demonize gun owners, guns, and the idea of self-defense as a God-given right.

We suggest the following article by Cheryl Todd at her website to be shared with family and friends, including those who may be disturbed by the propaganda filling the ether and the air.

They didn’t have to die right then

The murder spree of a still-missing madman in central Maine is resulting in the usual political and social screaming back and forth. Including the loud (and vote-mongering) mea culpa of some Congress-crittur who is betraying his oath of office by in essence calling for the repeal of the Second Amendment, reversing his previous opposition to “assault weapon” bans.

Eighteen dead (originally reported as 22, for some reason) in two different attacks in Lewiston (an important National Guard basing town) by a man with well-known mental illness who is or was a Maine Army National Guardsman is a bitter pill. The city and their families and friends have our sympathy and we share their sorrow.

A recent story reports that several people died when charging at the killer. One of them was actually armed. With a butcher knife. Apparently no one else was armed – at least with a firearm – in either of these two crowded venues. Another woman was shot and killed as she stood at the bar and tried to call 9-1-1.

The blunt truth? Virtually none of these people need to have died at the hands of this monster in human form. Why?

As Rob Morse reminded us recently, one in four Americans owns a gun. Let us say that only one if ten has a handgun suitable for everyday carry. That is still 2-3 of every 100 Americans. Maine is a “permitless concealed carry” state.

But…

People – not even employees – are allowed by State law to have a gun in places that serve liquor to be consumed on-site. In other words, bars and grills and many other places are target-rich environments with little or no risk to the killer.

And apparently the people of Lewiston in these places were “law-abiding” citizens who could not force themselves to care for one another enough to violate a stupid, murderous state law. To be blunt.

But there is more. The people there were not taught the basics of defense against brutal, mad killers. No “duck and cover” – just panic and run away, giving the killer easy shots. Or stand at the bar and pull out your cell phone to dial 9-1-1 while not taking basic precautions. Rush head-on at the murderer giving him time for two shots to your chest.

And depend on 9-1-1? Oleg Volk, over the years, has created some posters addressing that stupidity. Here are a few of his best:

Lessons learned from the opening of the 2nd Yom Kippur War

Thanks to Rob Morse for publishing his 700 words on this subject and allowing us to repost with some additional commentary.

Regardless of your opinion regarding the State of Israel, Hamas, and the status and condition of the Gaza Strip and its 2+ million, we can and must learn from the attack on the 7th of October by fighters exploding out of the so-called “open-air prison” by land, sea, and air. Not as partisans, but simply as people interested in protecting themselves and their family and community.

The lies of environists and other government-worshippers

There is no way that we can take anything at all that we are told by government agencies, educational institutions (which we realize are just another kind of government agency: government-run tax-funded “public” schools), mainstream or alternative media, or most of what passes for “science” these days.

Which means that we are often making important decisions for our family’s and congregations’ and other fellowships’ futures (safety, health, and prosperity) based on false or no data.

It is a great danger. Especially because it is easy to fall into the trap of believing some or even most of it. Especially in areas where we don’t have personal or family expertise.

Let us share an interesting story to make the point.

Three-front war? Or four?

More and more libertarians are pointing out that the current regime of Uncle Joe seems to be trying to pull Americans into three different wars: a three-front war. We have the obvious intervention and de-facto alliance with corrupt Ukraine against corrupt Russia. We have the actual ally Israel to which we are providing massive material support and sending in several thousand logistics support troops and – get this – military advisors! And apparently fully on-board with the war expanding to include Hezbollah, Lebanon, Syria, Iran, and no doubt Iraq and anyone else! Meanwhile, it also appears that Uncle Joe’s handlers (puppet masters) want to see war with one of Obummer-O’Biden’s biggest supporters: Mainland (Red) China over Taiwan, the South China Sea, and no doubt the Panama Canal.

Three wars? Or three fronts in a worldwide war? Can the FedGov do it?

Government madness writ large

Thank you for your patience. Posting of commentary will be rather sporatic and irregular in the next couple of weeks due to workload and sickness on the part of TPOL staff!

It seems that every day we have yet another (or two, or three) examples of how the craziness, the madness, of government at all levels is growing.

Environist “science” continues to dominate California

And boy, does it get confusing.

His imperial majesty Newsom has just signed one bill and given his imperial thumb-down to another, supposedly helping save Californians and their water, soil, and air, from environmental disaster, ill health, death – and pocketbooks that are too heavy. All serious problems in the Golden State, which became wealthy and populous because its people exploited the environment, native Californians, earlier immigrants, and of course, themselves.

(And which today depends on exploiting people from elsewhere – immigrants and border jumpers and people who live in other States and foreign countries.)

What this time? According to the site California Matters, the gov signed off on getting rid of a law that prohibited local governments from banning artificial turf products with PFAS (see below). At the same time, he vetoed a bill that would have banned PFAS in those artificial turf products.

Democracy’s end? Or just the end of the Union

Every time someone brings up dividing up the Fifty States – usually into a red faction and a blue one – they are ridiculed. Regardless of what political leaning the person suggesting it has.

But the times, they are a changing.

Maybe.

Pollsters tell us that a third or more of the electorate seem to want a divorce. But in the eyes of DC insiders, the mainstream media, and no doubt others, there is worse. At least a quarter of electors think democracy is toast.

Those who at least somewhat agree that democracy is no longer a viable system say that the country should explore alternative forms of government to ensure stability and progress.

It seems, so this organization claims, that Americans generally are becoming more politically divided despite Uncle Joe’s inauguration promise to unite the country.

Consider these results of a survey of 2,008 voters conducted by the Center for Politics at the University of Virginia:

Europe continues to massively fund Hamas

The various members of the European Union (can we really call them nations anymore?) all claim to be supporting Israel after the massive Hamas attack out of Gaza two weeks ago. Even so, they continue to supply massive amounts of support, mostly in the form of money, to Hamas.

What? Yep. Not only is Hamas officially headquartered in Qatar, but Qatar supplies (according to reports) $360-$480 million dollars (US) per year for the last decade to Hamas. Qatar of course gets that money from the profits selling LNG (Liquified Natural Gas) to Asia, Europe, and even the UK. (In large part, the sales to Europe have peaked in the last two years because of the NATO/US-instigated war in Ukraine.) Notice that Qatar is also where the FedGov parked $6 billion that Uncle Joe planned to give to Iran in exchange for releasing a few prisoners. (Usually such deals are called ‘paying ransom for kidnapped victims.’)

Whipping out the race card in America the Beautiful

‘There is a constant drumbeat from the so-called left that seeks to whip up racial hatred in the States. Not just racial hatred, but disdain and fear of fundamental human rights – not just human rights for the so-called white supremacists but even for the so-called people of color. (And more and more we hear the claim that not only are Caucasians all white supremacists, but apparently so are most of Asian and AmerInd ancestry: at least those with a Hispanic heritage.)

A recent example of this is found at a “black” news site, with a commentary called “Gun Control: My Fellow Americans – Why I don’t sing ‘America the Beautiful.’

As is usual with hoplophobic, hoploclastic screeds, the article is filled with untruths and exaggerations, and claims obviously false on their face. Of course, Microsoft felt it imperative to promote it by reposting so that anyone using a Microsoft browser has the headline thrown into their face.

Leave aside the claims about “endless mass shooting” across the land and how most Americans (at least those “of color”) fear to go to school, stores, churches, or movie theatres lest they be gunned down. For now. Just the headline.
