Libertarian Commentary on the News, 12 SEP 2015, #15-36D: Self-defense endangered

By Nathan Barton

Our right of self-defense is given by God, but man – in the form of government and nannies of all sorts, as well as prying neighbors and busybodies – constantly seeks to steal that right from us. Here are a few stories and comments that point that out.

An odd situation, indeed. In the Air Force Times, we learn that an Air Force officer on his motorcycle was assaulted and beaten by a group of “anarchist” “Occupy” type protesting against police in the Seattle-Tacoma area, It was NOT apparently,, because he was military, but because he had Southern Cross flags on his motorcycle. For the extreme Tranzis and nihilists, there is nothing BUT appearances; substance does not matter. Libertals – Tranzis – seem to want to resort to violence FAR more than your average soldier, sailor, airman, or Marine. Continue reading

Office Depot’s Disgusting Behavior

By Nathan Barton

The Planned Parenthood debacle and the Culture War over Abortion continues to spawn new confrontations. The latest, this week, is reported by Breitbart, relating how a woman wanting 500 copies of a “Prayer for the Conversion of Planned Parenthood” was denied service by an Office Depot in Chicago. The reason given boils down to the claim that the prayer was an act of terrorism and aggression and persecution. I’m not coming up with this on my own. Here is the Office Depot spokeswoman’s own words: ‘Karen Denning, a spokeswoman for Office Depot, told The Tribune that company policy prohibits “the copying of any type of material that advocates any form of racial or religious discrimination or the persecution of certain groups of people. It also prohibits copying any type of copyrighted material.” “The flier contained material that advocates the persecution of people who support abortion rights,” Ms. Denning said. Continue reading

Libertarian Commentary on the News, 10 Sep 2015, #15-36C: Government Excess

by Nathan Barton

How on earth?  CNS News reports that the FedGov “Bureau of Labor Statistics” reports that total Federal, State, and Local Governments (don’t know if that includes Tribal governments or not) employee numbers are 1.8 times that of manufacturing: 21,955,000 versus 12,329,000.  Incredible, and insane.  Yeah, some of those government jobs are definitely “productive” service and even “manufacturing” jobs. Those operating landfills, collecting trash, even repairing equipment and roads and such – but you can be sure that MOST are NOT. MOST are parasites. The growth of government is one factor. The other is that the Fifty States have FEWER manufacturing jobs today than the US did in 1941.  Yes, automation and increased productivity are a factor, but again, much of this is due to the nature of government. Jobs are pushed overseas not because it is more economical, but because government regulations make it more profitable. OH, by the way, this doesn’t include military personnel. The article points out that large numbers are engaged in “education” especially at the state and local level, an economic activity that government does NOT belong in. Continue reading

Libertarian Commentary on the News, #15-36B: Fractured and fracturing

By Nathan Barton

No, I’m not referring to “fracking,” the nickname for a common and valuable (though hated) method of completing oil and gas wells.

I ceased long ago to refer to us as the “united States” – preferring to use the phrase, the “Fifty States” to describe the former federal republic that is now dead.  Sometimes, there are a fair number of news items that remind us that the once-great nation is rapidly dividing, not by state lines but by often hard-to-define moral and political issues, for which there is little or no possibility of reconciliation or healing.

Mama’s Note: Unfortunately, the united States was never any kind of “great nation,” but always various collectives intent on controlling the ordinary people and everything else. Since that was the original purpose of the constitution, no “reconciliation” is possible. Why would free people want to compromise with slavery?

The endless number of factions attempting to control everything around them will guarantee that there is no healing until that very situation goes away. The sooner ordinary people realize that NONE of these warring factions and big shots have any legitimate authority over them… the sooner things may begin to resolve. Continue reading

Libertarian Commentary on the News, #15-36A: Unions and other insanity

By Nathan Barton

Unions are “fleecing Texas,” according to the Daily Policy Digest, because of laws and rules that give “release time” to government union members and officials so that they get paid by taxpayers while taking care of union business (unions are private organizations, even in Texas).  Of course, in reality, GOVERNMENT, not just government unions, are fleecing TAXPAYERS; people and families and businesses.  Union officials are parasites ON parasites on the body politic. Today is national prayer day: Baker’s Dozen things to pray for

By Nathan Barton

Today, the 4th of September, 2015, is a national day of prayer. Here are my suggestions for prayer today:

1. Pray for those in prison: whether they are in prison for a real crime or for some other (and often bogus) reason, and especially for those who are in prison because of their faith.

2. Pray for those in power, that we might be protected from their evil actions.

3. Pray for those who believe that they are serving the cause of freedom or protecting people’s lives and property, or our nation: that their eyes may be opened and that they may no longer be the tools of evil men and women.

4. Pray for those who are wealthy, that they may use their wealth for good, and resist the temptation of greed, and to be parasites on others.

5. Pray for those who are poor, that they may have the daily necessities of life and not fall into the temptation of thinking that they deserve welfare.

6. Pray for those who are seeking to do God’s will, even when they are in error, that they may learn the truth and have the courage to change to be in accordance with His will.

7. Pray for those who mistake liberty for license.

8. Pray for those who confuse the state with God.

9. Pray for those who think that it is God’s will that we obey whatever we are told to do by those who claim to be in charge or in power – in government.

10. Pray for those who are addicted to alcohol, tobacco, recreational or prescription drugs, as well as those addicted to television, video/computer games, and other things which destroy lives and harm themselves.

11. Pray for those who seek to forcibly prevent others from doing things that they fear that they might do if someone didn’t control them.

12. Pray for those who use heredity or environment as an excuse for the evil that they do; or as an excuse NOT to do what is right.

13. Pray for each other, that we may do a better job of being friends, neighbors, and self-governors.

There are, of course, many more than thirteen things to pray about, and you may disagree with my thoughts on this; please let me know!

Libertarian Commentary on the News, 04 SEP 2015, #15-35D: Craziness abounds!

By Nathan Barton

Mama’s notes: I thought that happened only in Chicago! Wonder how widespread this is, and how it matches with the actual vote totals.

Eight Texas counties list more voters than residents, according to Fox News. The difference is only about 3,000 out of roughly 50,000 estimated eligible voters, according to the US Census.  Assuming the Census is right in their “estimate,” (and I can tell you from personal experience that Census data is seriously flawed), this is not unreasonable given (a) frequent moves, (b) slow bureaucratic updating of records, (c) errors in data transcription, like misspelling names and addresses, and (d) MotorVoter laws which ENCOURAGE false voter registration and make it difficult to catch either mistakes or intentional “errors.”  The “integrity” of the vote (arguments about secret ballot, etc., ignored) is shot and has been for decades, even while regulations and laws have supposedly improved it. (Someone did point out that though Texas is now considered a “red state,” it was a dominant-Democrat state for a long time. Habits die hard, and dead people are not deprived of their right to vote! <grin> Continue reading

Libertarian Commentary on the News, 03 SEP 2015, #15-35C: Bizarro World

By Nathan Barton

But… but… Bizarro World?  Funny, and strange. CNS News says that Miz Hillary “suggests” that Mexico might just be a tad hypocritical about illegal immigration.  What, is she going to do a Trump?  Where are the voices condemning her?  Doesn’t she want the Hispanic vote?

Mama’s Note: It’s really hard to imagine just why anyone in the world would take this hypocritical liar seriously about anything.

Funny, ha ha?  Should we be surprised, that cocaine production in Bolivia has DROPPED since the US DEA was tossed out?  Lack of markets?  Middlemen? Continue reading

Libertarian Commentary on the News, 01 SEP 2015, #15-35B: Stupidity

By Nathan Barton

This strikes me as a stupid and an insanely criminal act: the Verge tells us that a 17-year-old has been sentenced to more than 11 YEARS in jail for running a Twitter account supportive of the Caliphate.  No, the insanely criminal act is NOT what this kid did, it is what the Nazgul and the “justice” system did to him that is so evil and crazy.  Seventeen years old, filled with emotions and all those wonderful little body chemicals (hormones) and idealistic and just jammed full of propaganda about the wonders of Islam and the evils of America, and you wonder why he behaves rather foolishly? He does not need jail time, he needs education and counseling – and we know he isn’t going to get either in a prison.  How stupid can people be? Continue reading

Libertarian Commentary on the News, 31 AUG 2015, #15-35A: Government failures highlighted

By Nathan Barton

Last week’s crash of a classic jet fighter during an air show in England, killing a number of people on the A27, is far from the worst of problems for that highway, according to the Guardian.  Dozens of people are killed each year on the dangerous and heavily traveled highway, apparently in large part due to failure of the government agencies to properly maintain and operate it, much less build it to safe standards.  It is one more example of government failing to do a job that people claim HAS to be a government function.  Private roads would not be perfect – nothing human is.  But surely even a modicum of competition and fair pricing for demand would go a long way to ending problems like this.  I am reminded of dangerous stretches of highway in California (the infamous US-101 south of San Francisco Bay comes to mind) and how government for decades has been unable to properly operate those highways.
